The vocalist was awful, and made it painful to get through the entire song. I also thought the tempo on amphetamines was a little odd.

Her tone and timbre were pleasant enough, it's her pitch that's terrible. She's sliding around trying to find the notes, especially on the last word of a line of which the note is held. She starts off about a step flat and slides up to the correct note. Very annoying and amateurish, even (and especially) if on purpose.

Here's a "McTell-correct" version, courtesy of Mr Paul Geremia. On his DVD, Paul makes the case that this is like a classical piece and to do it right is a tribute to the artist. Works for me.
