rented
Was that the one from Gainesville FL??? I have the DVD of it' date=' that's the same tour that I saw. At one point, Mike Campbell appears to be playing one of those Epiphone Collegiate model LPs. Florida Gators naturally. [/quote'] Yep sure was. He kept mentioning it to the crowd and they went nuts...especially when he told the story of him and The Bass player who grew up there and had great memories. What great taste he has in guitars too...that white SG, the firebird, The ricks! Toms always been the man. Always writes great songs!

bmoyer
Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm giong to answer "why a Casino". Versatile is my answer. I still get suprised from the range of tones I get from mine. It's my first P90 guitar so I can't speak too much to that, but I can play it clean and warm, it's never muddy, and with the right attack and gain, it can be downright gritty. Yeah, the Beatles endorsement is what got me curious but it doesn't scream Beatles to me when I play it, though I can hear it in some of their later recordings when John seemed to be using it fairly exclusively. And I hear it in Paul's early solo LP's. Anyway, I've got the Strat, the Tele, the LP and a Sherry. They've all got their signature but none sound much like a Casino to me. It's a different animal - I've only had mine several months but I still feel like I'm getting to feel all it can do. I wouldn't say it replaces the others, but it's all it's own. Hope hat helps. You can resume your previously schedule Petty/Springsteen discussion!
Lerxst1281733995
Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm giong to answer "why a Casino" <snip> You can resume your previously schedule Petty/Springsteen discussion! Heheheh... I meant to mention something in my last post to get the thread back on topic... Thanks for reeling it back in! I am most impressed with the Casino's versatility as well... It can't do absolutely everything (no guitar can) but it's got an impressive tonal range.. Chimey to growly. A lot of folks like to replace the P-90s on theirs' date=' but my Casino is dead stock and I love the sound of the pups! They're hot, but not [i']grossly[/i] over-wound.. I think they metered at around 9.5k - 10k, or there-abouts.. (It's been a while since I checked the resistance.. It seems to vary from one Casino to the next) They're not especially noisy, either, but I usually play mine with both pups activated, so that cancels out the hum.. I'm really happy with the neck pup.. It's got bass, but with CLARITY... I keep expecting mud when I flip the toggle to the neck position, and I'm always pleasantly surprised at how clear it sounds! Feedback isn't much of an issue, so far... As long as I don't stand directly facing my amp, I have little trouble... I have heard it howl though, due to my own my own forgetfulness... It was frightening!
rafaelh
I think they metered at around 9.5k - 10k' date=' or there-abouts.. [/quote'] Ha.....we was just checking that the other day on some of my guitars. Not sure if I measured them correctly but on mine I got 7.93 on the neck and 7.80 ohms on the bridge....mine is stock BTW. As far as the topic on hand. I've never been a Beatles fan so I never knew they played a Casino when I got mine. LOL....I actually just found out a few years back when I first saw a John Lennon Casino model. Notes_Norton
Since this thread is back on the original topic (after the delightful Ric/TP tangent) I'd like to add this. Not only does the Casino sound great and versatile, but when playing it, the vibration of the guitar against my torso is an added treat. It feels better against me than a solid body guitar. So why a Casino? 1) Sounds good plugged in - with a wide range of never-muddy P90 tones 2) Separate tone and vol controls for each pickup (common to many Gib/Epi models) 3) Sounds good unplugged (for an electric) 4) Great, easy to play, almost touch-and-go neck/fretboard 5) Feels good against the body when playing it. The same applies to my Gibson ES-330 Insights and incites by Notes

Ok' date=' I just pulled out the multi-meter and checked the pups on mine again... I was just a[i'] bit [/i]off in my recollection... The neck is 11.4k and the bridge is 12k... (I must have been thinking of the GFS pups in my Tele) So maybe they're approaching grossly overwound, compared to your 7.8/7.9 pups, but I don't care! They still sound great to me! I'm surprised that your neck and bridge pickups are so close.. Usually, there's at least a .5k difference between the bridge and the neck... rafaelh
Like I said I might be doing it wrong. I use a small patch chord, for pedals, plugged into the guitar jack. I have some Vand Zant Blues not installed that I used for comparison to the ones installed in my strat. The differences was just a couple of ohms which is why I was thinking maybe I was doing it correct....the Blues are a bit hotter than the ones I have installed. However all the differences I got checking them in the manner I stated are under.5 ohms so maybe I be doing something wrong. At any rate I feel the same as you in not really caring to much either cause they all do sound great to me too.....just beeing nosey sometimes Darn, seems like we keep jacking this man's thread....sorry pohatu Raf
Lerxst1281733995
That's the way I do it... Just touch the tip and the sleeve of the plug.. And make sure the volume and tone pots of the pickup you're reading are all the way up, so they zero out. And I don't think we're hijacking the thread again... At least we're still talking about the Casino!
