Sorrento, anybody?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, as much time as we spend bithcing about GC, MF, et al, employees - ya gotta wonder about a manager of a brick and mortar store than won't take advantage of the internet. 'Course, that same manager is probably responsible for employee hiring, too. And before anybody jumps up about lack of good people for the wage, I managed both dealership and aftermarket oil change centers for years. And my 60% retention rate was because I had a 27% promotion rate. There are good people, willing to work, at all kinds of labor rates, you just have to spend time finding, training and evaluating them. If they don't measure up, cut 'em loose and start over. Yes, there's a cost to continually hire people. There's a bigger one to hiring sloppy, lazy workers. A manager who accepts bad people, and uses his own labor rate to justify it, is just...just...poor.

Where did that rant come from? I haven't worked a day in over a year, and haven't managed a shop in over 5...

For some reason, I can't view the pic.. shows up broken. Anywayz, I'm assuming it's one of the re-issues from the 90's. I copped one last fall (Peerless factory, 1995) for a killer price. With the p90s through a hollow body, I thought it would sound like my Casino, but it's actually brighter sounding. The original Sorrento had mini-humbuckers, either 1 or 2.

Thinkin' about slapping a bigsby on it, and I'm due for a re-wire too. Has a nice, bright tone, and the neck is small.. not for players who like wide necks. I have small hands, so this suits me fine. And forget about upper fret access, but it's not meant for that kinda' playing anyway. Great clean sounds. Sounds lovely without pedals through my Twin Reverb. Not bad with some dirt.. think "Bad to the Bone" kinda vibe. It's the one guitar that wifey loves ' cuz it sparkles.

I see them pop up on the 'Bay every now and then. Especially the orange ones. They usually go for about $400-$600. I recommend someone pick it up. It's a great guitar, and the demand is low enough so that it's still a fabulous value. That is, until some favorite dude uses one in a video and everyone and their moms loses marbles over Sorrentos.

cabeza, very nice looking Sorrento, very nice Casino as well! If they ever release the Sorrento again, I'm on it! How cool would a orange Sorrento look with a Bigsby sittin' on it? I thought my new Casino was my last guitar purchase, but I could really be pursuaded to own one of these beauties...
