RotcanX
Tough to get it right though. Like that 'Vintage' copy at the end of the article... it's a pretty pathetic replica and that's hand done. Imagine what a Chinese version is going to look like, using four-colour process to mimic all those colours. Hopefully Epiphone is wise enough to stay miles away from this idea. Guest
http://guitarplayer.wordpress.com/2008/04/17/legendary-guitar-the-saga-of-eric-clapton%e2%80%99s-famous-fool-sg/ too bad epiphone had not made one yet it would be hot! With as much hype as there's been about that guitar around here in recent days I'd be shocked if Gibson isn't planning such a move but first plan on spending $5K for the Gibson version until they exhaust that market before the $1K Epiphone "decal" version shows up. Like any guitar with "unique" graphics or design such as "The Fool" or "Rocky"...unless you're owner of the original guitar it looks pretty silly. It's not like someone is going to say..."wow , you have Todd Rundgren's old guitar".. ...and Al's your uncle.

Man' date=' you are in an [i']optimistic[/i] mood today, Icon. I would point out that the street price for the Jimmy Hendrix Flying V with all its groovy graphics is a cool $11,750 Canadian, and the doodles on that are trivial compared to the work on the Fool SG. I would think you're looking at minimum $15 large for that baby.

bluesstringer
These guys wither painted their own or had artists paint them. Never interested me and I was playing in those times as many of you were. Having something like that now interests me about as much as an a** whuppin. If you really like that sort of thing, do your own thing with paint. At least then it's an original, irregardless of what it ends up looking like. RotcanX
Exactly. Some guys have done some pretty good imitations of George Harrison's Strat on their own. But I have to go along with the idea of doing something new and unique over the idea of doing a replica. And did you just say 'irregardless'? Notes_Norton
Maybe it's just me, but I've never had a desire to own a copy of a famous one-of-a-kind instrument that is identified with that person. Not that there is anything wrong with that. The way I see it, having Clapton's guitar isn't going to make me play like him. Having a John Lennon Casino isn't going to make me play better than I do on my "NAT" Casino. Having a black strat with white polka-dots isn't going to make me play like Buddy Guy either :-( That just strikes me as a form of idol worship. And although I do appreciate musicians with more skills than mine, we are still just musicians. I play better than some musicians and others play better than I do, but we are simply all brethren. If I met Clapton tomorrow, I'd speak to him as a fellow musician, not as a fan. If I wanted a custom paint job on my guitar, I'd hire someone to do it and make my guitar a one-of-a-kind guitar. But then, star endorsements have always sold instruments. I guess selling a designer copy just ups the ante. On the other hand, I might want to purchase an SG because I liked the tone Clapton, Kath or someone else got out of the instrument - but I'm certainly not going to pay more for the "designer" model and I'm not going to get it because of idol worship. But, to each his/her own. Insights and incites by Notes
RotcanX
Absolutely. While it'd be über cool to own the actual Fool SG, I fail to see the point in owning a replica. Did anybody see that movie Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise? There's one scene in it where you see a smashed-up SG in a glass case... ostensibly one of Pete Townshend's ex-guitars. Now, while the smashing of SGs is an odious crime, I have to admit there would be a certain cachet to owning a guitar smashed by Pete... but not much point in having a 'replica'. Johno
Vanilla Sky was in itself a replica. Not as good as the original "Abre los ojos" with the exception of having the beautiful Penélope Cruz in both.
