Removing volume and tone knobs and putting in Gibson speed knobs on Epi SG

Hey, just got some Gibson Speed knobs through the post, and I was just wondering how to swap them over.

 

Do I need anything like Glue? I know my fender knobs just pull off.

 

How do I do it? Thanks.

They just pull off, but the Gibson knobs may not fit the import pots used on Epiphones.

I have found that the epi pots have a smaller diameter shaft than the Gibsons, so as noted above you may have some issues.

Gibson knobs won't fit. These will, I've put them on 3 of my Epis: Use a string to pull the knobs off. Wrap it around, underneath the knob and pull up. Some come off easier than others.

Yeah that's what I have.. Gibson style speed knobs.

They fit quite snugly And I just pull the old ones off by hand

Slide a rag under the edge of the knob and pull, they'll come right off.

The LP in my avatar has $5 'All Parts' speed knobs.

Ever so gingerly tap them down with a covering cloth (washcloth) & rubber hammer just enough to get the shaft top in the cap then leave it alone. Don't dare tap hard or try to get it down further than it will go.

These were a tight fit too and took some patience.

I saw a forum members LP once that had a washer covering the hole he had tapped through the body from being too forceful when putting the knobs on.

That thought never left my mind as I carefully installed my new speed knobs.
