Epiphone Sheraton II

shambles

Recommended Posts

Hi

I bought the Sheraton and I'm planning to put other humbuckers, but now I'm doubting if to put who humbuckers, two p90 style humbuckers or one each (is this possible, or convenient).

I play mostly indie but also blues and zeppelin-ish rock, what would better fit my style and why?

feedback is very appreciated.

I think a pair of humbuckers will do the job just fine....for a typical 335 sound some Gibsons Classic 57. If you want a little more bite....you can put some Classics plus....o any other model you like. I think HBs are perfect for indie and classic rock-blues.

If you go true P90, I think you'll have to do some cutting, and there won't be any going back! Stacked P90's aren't quite the same I hear, but are close, and no cutting is involved. I put Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in my Sherri, and it really sings now, though I empathize w/ P90 lust...I'm into those big time right now.

You should consider a pot upgrade too IMO, it's cheap, and makes a big difference, IMO again.

I have 57 Classic's in my Les Paul, and agree that they sound great.

I have an epi lp with humbuck bridge.. and p90 neck..

I have a sheraton with two p90s..

Just when I think the lp's humbuck is my fave. I fall in love with the p90s all over again..

One thing is for sure. for me, p90 neck position is really great.

humbuck size p90s don't sound any different than the smaller size to my ears, and I've had a bunch in here.

zep and indie rock.. I do zep.. zz, ac/dc.. etc.. classis rock tunes. and I love the p90 and the humbuck for either.

sure. you can get lost in the 'what he had' thing.. or 'what most use' .. but the fact is, I can tweak that p90 bridge to sound fat fat fat..

and you can't get that bite out of a humbuck. jimmy used teles.. danelectros.. trebly pups mattered.

ideally.. a humbuck bridge with push pull. and a p90 neck.. lots of sounds there..that'd do it.

but again.. I love the sheraton with twin p90s to death.. that's no casino either..

You can do a P-90/humbucker combination. I believe someone on this forum (or, formerly on this forum...) has a humbucker and an H-90 in his Les Paul...

I don't remember who it is, but I know he has a Gibson "The Paul," and several other Les Paul slab-bodies.

Sorry' date=' but what is a pot upgrade?[/quote']

It means replacing the potentiometers, which are what the tone and volume knobs are connected to; Epi uses cheap pots, and they get noisy or scratchy pretty quickly. When I rewired my Sheraton I replaced the whole harness. This is the opposite of the "cheat" method, where you just splice the new pickup into the existing wiring.

From having done so on my Dot, swapping two humbuckers for two SD P90s won't give you much difference in sound, oddly enough. I expected a much larger difference.
