Has anyone ever put humbuckers on a Casino?

This is for the far future' date=' but I'm curious.

I love the Casino, I love the shape, I love the light weight, I love the P90s and I don't play loud enough to have a feedback problem.

As much as I love my P90s, and although I can get close to a humbucker sound with my Zoom G1X pedal, there are times when I want to have the authentic humbucker sound.

I have a guitar with humbuckers (LTD/ESP/EC50), it has a great neck, it has a great sound, but it is heavy on my shoulder.

So I was wondering if anybody has ever put humbuckers on a Casino? If so: (1) how difficult was it (2) what did it involve and (3) how did it sound?

I don't want to mess with my Casino, but if this is possible, and if in the future I can afford another used "project" Casino, it might be right for me.

Just curious.

dbirchett, my Casino was made in the Peerless plant - nice guitar

Guitar Chico, yes the LTD is a heavy metal guitar, but I got it for a price I couldn't refuse. On my usual gigs I play many different kinds of music, rock, blues, etc., for an adult market (no heavy metal) and the P90s on my Casino are perfect for just about 95% of what I play. But just as every guitarist should have at least one P90 guitar, every guitarist should have at least one humbucker too. The LTD is a decent guitar. The neck is good, the sound is good, but I'm spoiled, it's heavy.

And every guitarist should have one Fender-ish one too I suppose.

BTW, I tried a Fender Jaguar in GC a couple of weeks ago. Short scale Fender with lots of slide switches on it plus two humbuckers with taps to make them single coils (like Leilani's Parker). But it was way too heavy.

CB, thanks for the neoprene tip. I had a neo-sax strap once, and it worked well, but it made my neck sweat a lot. It might not do that on my shoulder because I wear a shirt and blazer on stage.

Of course if I brought a heavy guitar on stage, I could consider it a workout. Switching instruments between guitar, sax, wind synthesizer, flute, and percussion controller, might mean picking the guitar up and putting it back on the stand 20-30 times a night. It would be like going to the gym :)

FenrirLupus, Thanks, I bookmarked the site. BTW, what's the difference between Alnico 2 and Alnico 5?

Now if I could only find a cheap Casino ;) I could have some fun.

BTW, this is all your fault. All of you. I've never even thought of changing anything but strings, knobs and pickguards on a guitar before. But you all keep talking about your mods. I feel like an outsider. I must conform - I must conform - I must conform <Big Grin>

[/quote']alnico (aluminum, nickel, cobalt) is a very powerful magnet (you can put one on either side of your hand and they will stick with your hand in between) used for many applications, including guitar pickups. alnico 2 is less strong, resulting in lower output, but less string pull. alnico 5 pulls harder on your strings, but has higher output. you can make an alnico 2 pickup have a similar output to an alnico 5 pickup by winding more copper around it, but that results in more microphonic feedback.

i believe the dumbest... i mean... strongest alnico magnet used in a guitar pickup as of yet is alnico 8 (but that would be very impractical, as it would pull VERY hard on your strings and have VERY high output)

the problem with pulling on strings is that they come out of tune.

Generally Alnico2 has a sweeter top end but bass will be spongier and not as tight as an Alnico5. Trade-offs...
