can someone educate a lifelong fender dude and tell me the diff between the plus and standard.......I prefer narrow necks compared to some of the 2x4s I've seen on Gibsons........does the plus use American pups if not which model does........and lastly who has a heritage burst in Tampa thats unloading one?

The plus and standard are basicly the same. The plus indicates a flame(tigerstripe) maple top. They all have more of a 60ish neck rather than Gibson's chunky 50's neck your referring to. Pickups are of Asian make, but adequate. If you insist on US-made PUs you'll want an Elitist, or a Signature model. Unfortunately the Elitist line has just been discontinued(except the Casino) alltho they can still be found.

A good option would be to buy a nice Heritage-burst and upgrade the PUs. Or have a look at Epiphone's Prophesy serie. They have 2 LP-models with US-PUs. Not sure if you like the contemporary twist to the models tho.

Thanx for the education Rico' date=' thats what I would do throw in a pair of American pups makes a huge difference.......ef-in have you had a close look at yours lately, now thats disturbing........[/quote']

Buckethead vs. Turbanbaby thread GO!

Just kidding. Richochet pretty much gave you all the advice that you need about the LPs. The "flame top" is just a veneer (sticker) that they put in before they finish the guitar to make it look better. If you think that the visual flame is worth the money, you should get the Plus Top. Elitists do have the US pickups as mentioned, but you'll have to either get one off eBay/Craigslist or pick up one of the few left on Musician's Friend. I would say to get the Plain/Plus Top and upgrade the pickups and wiring if the sound isn't exactly what you want, but it's your call.

I hear ya Skepti........if you look at Fender Japans guitars from the early 90s they weren't even using veneer it was Mactac........theres always a trade off......

If I buy something from the B line up you expect to spend some money on it and put something together your satisfied with........but then thats the trade off.........

The LP plus top doesn't use a sticker.

It's a sheeted piece of flamed veneer about as thin as an envelope.

If you want to see a sticker check out the Samick Avion AV-3;

That one there is obvious due to the way it's made...it has no 3-D visual effect at all

and the stripes look to bleed from being fake, like the ink spread further than it was supposed to, almost like bad wallpaper.

I guess for $279 the AV-3 would have to minimize somewhere huh?

Then neck on both my Epi LP+ and Gib LP Studio seem to be the same profile.

Gibson web site says the Studio is a 59 neck.

The neck on my G400 is much thinner, which I presume to be the 60's taper.

The Iommi has Gib USA pups

On the other hand my Epi LP Std Plus has a lot thinner neck than my Gibson SG special with its 50s neck. Gibson do say that each neck will be different because of the way they are cut. I guess the only way for Fubar to see if he likes the Epi LP neck is to play one in the shop.

theres something about the ultra cutaway body, probably because it reminds me how comfy the strat was.......going to spend some time with that one.........I had a nice Canadian made Watson Lp changed out the pups for a hot pair of Zaks and the guitar rocked.........you know what comes next............"shoulda hung on to it"
