Casino Elitist

Sorry for yet another topic on this! I'm based in the UK and I'm thinking about getting an Elitist Casino. A couple of months ago, no prob, but now no-one has them in stock, presumably because of the Elitist line being discontinued. I uunderstand, however, that the Elitist Casino will still be produced, so my question is .... Will they be still available in the UK / Europe?

The only thing I can find in the UK at the moment is a single 335 dot Elitist - I'm tempted to get that, but what I really want is the Casino!

Any help appreciated.

Musician's Friend probably ships internationally, but I can't say for sure.

Just thought I'd add a little info. I want the guitar as I'm interested in taking a jazzier approach to playing, and I loved the Wildkat P 90 sound when I played it in a store. However, I want a better crafted guitar, hence my interest in the Casino.

As I mentioned in the first post, there is a 335 dot elitist available, so how does this compare to the Casino jazz wise? I've heard rock solos on 335s, but what are they like for jazz sounds?

335's are excellent "Jazz" guitars. Just ask Larry Carlton! They are probably one of the most versatile guitars made! So, an Elitist "Dot" would be an excellent choice. Casino's, being P-90 equipped guitars, as well as being fully hollow bodied, will have a bit "rounder," more mid-range sound, and often times, the neck pickup will be a bit less "muddy" than humbuckers can get. That, depending on the tone you like, can be good or bad? But, in both cases...certainly can be compensated by EQ on the amp. The Casino will be quite a bit lighter, in weight, so if you're going to be standing a lot, that might be a consideration?

Added: Upper fret access, is better on a 335/Riviera/Sheraton, as well.

I put P90's on my Dot, and they don't sound that much different from the humbuckers. I think the Dot would be an excellent choice, as would the Sheraton Elitist.

Charlie and Geoffrey, thanks, great advice. Interesting that you tried P90s on a 335, Jeffery, that's something that occured to me as a possibility, but as you've done the experimenting for me I can dismiss that one!

Charlie, weight is always a factor, in fact the main reason I rarely use my Les Paul on stage is because it's too heavy. Good point about Larry Carlton too.

One other question for all you folks out there ... Greg gave me the nut measurement for the Casino neck earlier, but what does that translate into in terms of comparison with say a 60's Les Paul neck or a Strat C shaped neck? I use these as examples because they're guitars I'm familiar with.

Thanks again for all your responses.

Just an update.

I received an email from Gibson regarding the availability of Elitist Casinos, and it seems that they ARE available in Europe, but that there is currently a "huge demand for our Gibson and Epiphone products worldwide", which is apparently why no-one is selling them.

They also confirmed that the Casino is the only Elitist model still in production.

Cheers,

Martin

Can't and won't speak for other's experiences, but my Casino (1966) has a thinner neck than a LP or a Strat...

especially the "C" shaped Strat necks. They'll feel like a baseball bat, compared to a Casino neck. The '60's

style LP neck will be closer to the Casino...but even it, is a bit larger, in girth. But, you get used to making the

adjustments. I have guitars with all kinds of neck shapes and girths...never been a problem, for me, to go

back an forth. I guess, if I had to choose, the '60's type LP neck would be it...but, there are certain guitars

I own, that I love the necks on, and they aren't even close, to that "ideal." So...??? I guess, I'm one of those

folks, who just isn't that picky, about neck dimensions...and "makes do!" Other's are quite picky. So "Horses

for Courses," as they say.
