stan 58
I changed strings and checked to see if it had, and what size the cap was on my 97 Epi MIK Les Paul Iguana Burst. I also wanted to check the tenon. I was surprized to find a rather large 5/8"Cap and a kind of long tenon. So next time you change strings on your Les Pauls, take a peek and report back. And does anyone know how thick the cap is on a Gibson Les Paul, And if the Tenon in my Epi is Short or long. Thanks! Stan.

Red 333
That' not a very long tenon. Not that it matters if you like your guitar. However, a long tenon would pretty much fill that gap.
Goldie
That's a short tenon, and although the cap is 5/8" thick, only the top 1/32" is the curly Maple.
IntelligentAl
I don't mean to sound like a complete fool, but what exactly is a tenon? I should probably know this...
stan 58
Tenon is the part of the neck thats sticks in to the body of the guitar. Some are longer then others, longer being better. Stan.

Dave
Tenons are used in quality furniture manufacture. Making a tenon consists of cutting a wood part with a slot in it, called a mortise, and then the matching part has a tab, called a tenon, that is cut slightly smaller. The tab and the slot are coated with glue and press fit together. The result makes the joint very strong as opposed to a butt joint or a dowel and a round hole with is commonly referred to as peg contruction. Both are sometimes pinned with a brad to prevent loosening from stress during the curing time of the glue. Pictures here
Ricochet
That's a short tenon' date=' and although the cap is 5/8" thick, only the top 1/32" is the curly Maple.[/quote'] A short tenon approx ends at the fretboard(basicly a no-tenon) Stan's is really a medium or half-long tenon. :-)
