Jazzric Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hey guys , just ordered up some JJ-tubes from eurotube...now since I'm new at this..just to make sure I'm doin it right.. 1- unplug..face plate off.. 2- drop the chassis by the 4 screws at the top. 3- old tubes out... 4- new tubes in... ..is there a certain way to handle the tubes, do I touch with hand or with cloth or something..... 5- put chassis on top of cab, fire it up and enjoy the tubes glow..( just kidding, I think) humm..soo I'm thinking that's it ??? Thanks in advance........
TWANG Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 yep. just be careful not to bend the legs.. and don't take 'em out hot! you kind of back and forth pressure them in.. like a fat lady wiggling on tight jeans. a little here, a little there. some ax7s don't glow a bit. but the el84 will. TWANG

(pry glue loose with putty knife under the "horns") 2- flip VJr. on its head 3- old tubes out... (pre-mark with felt tip to keep pin alignment correct - also push down 1/4 turn 12ax7 can) 4- new tubes in...(align pins to match your markings on old valves replace can & retainer on EL84) ..use rubber glove or clean cloth to keep body oil off of glass (prevents hot spots/premature failures) 5- replace back panel, warm it up and enjoy Hit every BLUE NOTE baaaby..., I'm going to play on:-"
Eracer_Team Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 in either case you're still going to have to remove the shields from the tubes. One tube has a little top hat ring with springs holding the tube, the other has an aluminum can over top that's spring loaded. With the can just turn a ¼ turn and it should pull straight up
