w1av Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I have a beautiful Epi Les Paul Classic sunburst. I just got the guitar. It was made in China in 2006 and is in MINT condition. I want to replace the pickups but I am not too sure what TYPE of pickups I want. Here's the deal: The guitars tone is FINE the way it is, but there is not enough high range on the middle and rhythm switch positions. I almost always use the MIDDLE switch position. The bridge I seldom ever use with exception of a solo at times. What I need is MORE TREBLE response from the neck. I was looking at GFS pickups. I put a set of Vintage 59's in my semi hollow body Washburn Delta King. Sounds fabulous. What I am thinking of is putting a single GFS DREAM P90 in the NECK. That will give me a little more high end there. And put a Vintage '59 in the bridge. I would like some feedback from you guys who do your own mods on these Epiphone LP's. I really LOVE the sound of my LP but NEED more high end from the neck. Even on my amp with treble cranked up to 10 and brightness switch pulled out, there still isn't enuff HIGH!!!! I was thinking of putting a set of DREAM 90's in BOTH neck and bridge but I think that might make guitar to thin sounding and shrill. Does anyone have P90's in their LEs Pauls????? Please help!!!! W1AV Can't speak for others, but I love P90s. And the Epi 56 Goldtop, along with the Casino and some other special editions come with them. You could put them in your LP; just depends on whether you like the sound of 'em or not. You should check them out before you commit. They are single coils, after all, and so you'll have to deal with potential hum, but you could definitely do it. All LPs before 1957 came with P90s, you realize. If you don't mind spending the money, Gibson's P94s are P90s in a humbucker size package; I have them in my Riviera and absolutely love them.
w1av Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Well after mulling it over and reading other posts on the topic, I think I am gonna drop in a set of GFS Vintage '59 PUPS. They did wonders for my semi hollow body guitar and they are a general all-around good replacement which will be better than the stock pups.....
Ricochet Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Try replacing the neck-volume pot with a 1Meg valued pot. For a few bucks it's worth a try.
TWANG Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I'll just stand over here and wait until you decide you want a p90 in the neck. *s TWANG
