(vintage) sorrentos? wacky trade offer.

got an interesting trade offer today, a 60s sorrento for my es333. there isn't a whole lot of info on these; from what i gather, they are thin line full hollows? like a pointy, single cut casino. that sound right? there are lots of photos out there, at least.

for what its worth, the one i'm being offered has had a gang of things done to it- refret, neck reset, headstock repair (one wing broke off vertically along the tuners), no pick guard, no ohsc, non original pickup, bridge, tuners or knobs. which is to say, the vintage value probably isn't much at all. and it is a single mini hum model, short headstock, with an inlaid(?) logo- no tin thing on the head stock.

i'll check it out because the guy appears to be local, but i really have no idea here. i love me some epis, and the novelty of having a 50 year old guitar would be pretty cool. on the surface, it isn't what i'm looking for, though. i'd much rather have a 2 pup, larger headstock model. and for what it would cost me, i may was well just trade for a damn elitist casino and slap a bigsby on it. on the plus side, all the repairs have already been done for me, and since the value is shot, i can kinda do whatever with it. and it is pretty (olive burst!).

what do you guys think? heck, i might even think my guitar is worth more.

to complicate things, i got a guy coming by tomorrow with cash in hand for it to try it out. and frankly, i'm not really a vintage guitar guy. i kinda just don't get along with them, and i don't want to own a piece of art. i want a guitar. but maybe the sorrento is made of tone and magic and mojo. who knows? i literally know next to nothing about them.

i think the reissues looked pretty damn cool, though, especially with a bigsby.

Single pic up model with all those mods? I wouldn't trade it for a Gibson 333. If you want something different sell your Gibson and put it towards a quality guitar that's had no serious issues and is going to play nicely. Re-fret, Re-set neck, headstock repairs, pick up replacements from p90 to humbuckers... sounds a bit too much to be worth investing in... unless of course it's exactly what you're looking for.

Any pics of either the Gibson/Epiphone?

Take the cash. You should get over $1000 for the 333 and you can buy a nice newish Sheraton II with no issues and a nice tube amp for that. Lots of other good Epi choices for that kind of $$, and with no issues. I have some 50-year old guitars and they make great display/conversation pieces, but they always need work, and that Sorrento sounds like a dog.

my es333 is the one in the trading forum, if you wanna take a peek. i like it fine, but the elitist sheraton fell into my lap, and i just bonded with it more. not that the es333 is redundant, but don't want to keep two similar guitars around, and it deserves a good home.

but the market is pretty lame right now, so i'm having trouble moving the guitar. i had a few buyers lined up when i first got the elitist, but i wanted to sit with both before deciding, and now everyone is broke. 8-[

for what it is worth, i did a bunch of mods to my 333, too. :-# so now i'm leaning cash, which i'll try to turn into a big hollowbody, if not pay some bills off. maybe i'll take a closer look at a bigsby'ed elitist casino, if not a broadway. currently leaning gretsch, but we'll see.
