antwhi2001
Just sold this one, when I bought it it had black speed knobs, selector switch ring and tip, black pup surrounds...I think these look vastly better with cream parts, matching the binding.... compared to :

RotcanX
Interesting treatment... looks pretty good. However the black plastic trim is one of the things that makes a Custom a Custom. My personal preference would be for the 'before' version, especially since it looks a lot like Mick Ronson's 'stripped' Les Paul.
antwhi2001
Ah, the great Mr Ronson. This is the same guitar as it was for a few months as a Ronno tribute :
RotcanX
Love it! Interesting headstock work, BTW.
duane v
Was the binding colored in on the headstock??? Something isn't right about the headstock inlays, or maybe it's just my eyes.
RotcanX
Well yeah, duh, it's an Epi headstock re-worked into an almost Gibson replica.

RotcanX
Really? I'm starting to wonder if it's a Photoshop job.
duane v
Hmmm The lower bout of the headstock where the low E-string has interesting shading
Ron G
If you recall some "counterfeit" threads a few months ago you'll remember that it's not only a fake Gibson, it's a fake Epiphone. Yes, I remember that the owner swears it's authentic but he got it from one of those shipped-direct-from-China-at-an.unbelievably-low-price sites. antwhi2001
You're right Ron, it's the same guitar. I wouldn't say I "swear" it's an Epi. I would say I'm 90% certain. And as previously stated, I don't greatly care one way or the other. It was bought from a dodgy dealer (MZ OnLine) and shipped direct from China, which suggests FAKE in big letters. However, it came with all the usual stuff including a full colour 2 sided Epi Casino promotional poster packed with it, user manual etc. That seems a long and un-necessary way for a faker to go. I think it was more likely stolen or B stock. Unlike you, I've also been hands-on with the guitar close up, including stripping it down. It was indistinguishable from the 2 other EE LPs I've played. And inferior to the Samick Epis I've owned. Here's 2 more shots of the reshaped headstock just to show it wasn't photoshopped...and yes, I changed the overlay as well as the shape. RotcanX
I guess the second photo is from before you added the split diamond overlay?
duane v
Well I'm glad you cleared everythingup Mr. Antwhi=d> ...... again nice work to the guitar.
antwhi2001
The first pic shows a split diamond overlay, from when I wanted a Ronno clone...then I thought it was a bit silly for a 50 year old man to copy dead pop stars' guitars, and decided to go for another look, fitting what I thought looked best. I preferred the plainer headstock with all the lettering in gold, it seemed to suit the guitar better.
Svet
I hope you don't mind me asking but why did you sell it? It seems like you put a lot of work into it and that you were fond of it. I hope it wasn't due to a poor financial situation as that is becoming all too common these days.
antwhi2001
Svet, thanks for your concern. And thanks for giving me an excuse to post pics of the main reason I sold the Custom Plus........ Mahogany set neck, proper maple cap, chambered body, 24 frets. Light, well balanced, simple controls...I've swapped the tone pot for a TBX. It's a 1997 Studio model. Got it for £510, which is about the same price as an Epi Custom Plus here in UK. Had to sell my Custom Plus, and an Alba Tele copy, to finance it.....but no regrets, these are brilliant guitars. Much more playable than the basic LP design.
