;)

I posted a link to "a known counterfit site" and it got pulled down real quick. Epi doesn't approve of it' date=' this being their house after all.

and yes, that is too low by far, most definately a counterfit site.

I'm on the other side of the fence on this. I think it would be better for Epiphone to make a sticky of the counterfeit sites so that people could go to it and see who they are. It might help to stop someone buying from dodgy dealers and might also help to end the interminable "is my guitar a fake" threads.

I had made the exact same argument to Duane, alas, their house, their rules.

Only problem with this is that Google and other search engines rate sites based on the number of links to them (among other things). So linking here would just drive them higher up the list on searches. Also there's legal issues - what if one of the sites turns out to be legit or partially legit? Then ya got lawyers camped out on your doorstep.

I think removing / ignoring them is the better (albeit imperfect) policy.

Just my .02, and no I don't work for Epiphone.

it can sometimes be hard to tell a counterfeit guitars site from a legit site, maybe someone should start a blog with info on the fakers? The way to get around the links helping drive them up on search engines is to just type the address, not make it a link. If you want to warn people about a site called Cheap Fake Guitars for example and the page turns stuff into links automatically you can type something like

www.(NOFAKES)fakecheapguitars.com

so that it isn't an actual working link to the site and people know to take out the stuff in the parenthesis to actually use the link. Not a real link BTW

"problem" is that regardless of the fact it is a fake, there is a market for it.

As long as people buy them.. people will make them.

I can usually spote a fake in person a mile away.. binding is too white, cheap nut etc. On the internet it is easy to take pics with a cheap camera and the differences are less obvious. If it is a copy of a gibson you can tell by the poor quality control that it is probably a real gibson.

As for the legal issue for the forums here, thegearpage has a similar policy on posts that complain about "deals gone bad" Same reason. It just takes one lawyer to ruin your day.
