Just got my first Casino, fret buzz...

Hello all,

This seems like a great forum, so I thought I'd join. I just picked up my first ever Epiphone. It's a 2006 Peerless Casino in Vintage Sunburst.

I'm getting some annoying fret buzz, however. I noticed that the bridge was on backwards so I flipped it and tried playing with the action, but it's still there. Ive never set up any of my guitars before, so I don't really know what I'm doing in that department.

Any advice?

Thanks

You probably didn't need to flip your bridge around. Buzz can be caused by LOTS of different things, and Casino's buzz a little at the bridge because of the saddle retaining wire anyways, so that may be what's causing it. My new IBJL had a couple of loose frets from the factory. If you're in Toronto, find a good guitar tech, there will be quite a few there. Go to Long&McQuade downtown and ask them who they use. Don't even try yourself if you don't have a lot of experience. It won't be much $$$ and it will get fixed and setup properly.

And welcome to the forums...

And post pics...

when you flipped the bridge you may have put the wrong sized saddle slots under the strings.

take a really good look at it, wide slots/wide strings........fine slots/......well, you get the picture.

of the 20 or so possible causes for fret buzz, backward bridge is hardly ever it.

Was the bridge on backwards? I belive a casino with a tailpiece has the tun-o-matic with the screws facing the neck unlike guitars like LPs and SGs where the screws face the stop bars; I'm sure someone more knowledgable will put me right on that if i've got it wrong!

Be sure you know where the buzz is coming from before you adjust the set-up, the spring bar on the bridge perhaps?

The correct bridge orientaion is the one where screw head access is the easiest. Most Epi/Gibson guits (including Casinos) have the screw heads facing the neck. But that's not always the case and not always the best arrangement.

But one thing is for sure - if you've filpped the bridge and haven't re-intonated the guitar you not only have fret buzz, but now it'll never tune up properly. If the above suggested tutorials don't clear this up, take it to a pro.....
