'67 Casino Vs Elitist???

Hey there,

What would you do in this situation??

I've got chance of a '67 Casino at a pretty good price (around £1400), it's not in collectors condition, it's very battered. No damage though, cosmetic stuff really, the finish is faded etc. and it's missing the pickguard.

It doesn't have the original case either...

But I've quite recently got an Elitist which I love.

If I get the '67 I have to sell the Elitist.

Decisions decisions decisions...

Not every 40+ year old guitar is a good guitar...........

I would keep the Elitist' date=' but that's just me.

+1 on the above...

I have played older casinos, and they're not as solid as my JL Rev, which is basically an Elitist with nitro.

Johnny, that is a tough one to call, on the one hand you have the Mojo of the 67, and on the other you have the build quality of the Elitist. I guess what you really need to do is compare them side by side.

You say this Casino is a 67, if so it will have the thinner neck, with the narrower nut spacing. Basically, the later the 60`s the more they skimped on Epiphone specs. Another point to bear in mind, is the colour of the guitar, Cherry Red 60`s Casino`s are less desirable than the Sunburst ones (To collectors) as are single pickup versions, and those with the long 19th fret neck join. You also need to find out if anything else has been changed, i.e. pickups, or the bridge etc.

If I was given the chance to get a good 64-66 Casino for my "Lennon 65" reissue, I like you may be tempted!

I don`t know if I`ve helped, but good luck in whatever you choose to do.

Steve.

I think you could be right..

Something deep down inside me is telling me "it's cheap for a reason"!

I might keep an eye out for a s/hand John Lennon model.

Thanks for the advice!

Is it this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180485212187&ssPageName=STRKMEWAX:IT. If so' date=' the neck/body joint doesn`t look as precise as it should be, and the bridge/Tuners are not original.

Yeah that's the one.

Looking at it now I don't know why I even thought about it????

You're right about the neck/body joint, there is something fishy about it I'm sure.

It is quite local to me and I was blinded by the "mojo" of a vintage casino!

I'll keep my elitist.

It's on a buy it now for £1600. Not sure what the conversion rate is? Would that make it something like $2700-$3000

It was originally listed at £1300 pounds and went up when another 60's Casino with a repaired neck break sold for £1700.

We don't really see that many vintage casinos over here. Unluckily for us.[biggrin]
