PP_CS336
iv got a sheraton tobacco sb made in korea 1999 it has the serial number on the label in the f hole but no stamp on the headstock iv seen stamp on one from 1994 i no its lagit cos the number cheaks out and it sound and looks great just wondering why mines not got a stamp and some others do I have a 2005 Sheraton II NA (MIK) and it has the Seial number on the headstock and not on the label inside the f-hole (and I had seen one with the serial number on the tag in the f-hole). When I questioned Gibson/Epiphone Customer Service they said that's the way it is, i.e. sometimes it's in one place or the other, or both. I guess it depends on the factory it's made at or whatever. They said mine was legit. Check yours and see. Most likely it is. I've yet to see any "phoney" archtop guitars (although you never know). Most of the fakes are in solid body models. They're easier to copy.
epinder
I've yet to see any "phoney" archtop guitars (although you never know). Most of the fakes are in solid body models. They're easier to copy. That is exactly what I thought, until....a couple of months ago these left handed cherry Casinos started popping up on ebay. They were brand new except the serial numbers were all 6 or 7 years old. After checking the photos a bit closer, I noticed little details that were a tad askew. That and the prices of $350 were the give away. Be careful even with archtops. I'm also noticing a fair amount of Joe Pass lefties on ebay lately. The sellers are stating up front that the guitars are stamped "USED", but I question why they are coming to life now when EPI hasn't produced lefty JP's for a year or two. Hmmm, maybe I've seen to many conspiracy movies!!!!
Markwell
My Casino (Korean, 2009) doesn't have a stamp on the back of the headstock. It may have had a sticker with the serial on, amongst the other 'QC passed' and 'Made in Korea' stuff, but I took them all off. While I'm on the subject - did I make a mistake in taking the stickers off?
