alans056
Hello I have a Epiphone Les Paul Custom, with Gibson 57 pickups (gold cover). I would like to know if it was possible to have my guitar look like this one by removing the cover : Are there risks doing so ? Thank you!
Gunner
Shouldn't be a problem. I did it on my LP Custom years ago (also gold covers), but eventually put them back on.
bigneil
why not buy replacement pickups (uncovered), and keep the originals some place safe in case you change your mind.

If your pups are wax potted, the only "risk" is having to gently scrape off the wax from the top with a plastic card, and rubbing rest off with rags. LEAVE the wax that goes around the wires! There's a section in the EPI Lounge "Do-it-Yourself" Thread called "GUITAR PICKUP INFO". Contains pup cover removal instructions. Two ways, One has youtube vid (desolder method), other is a text instruction (dremel tool method). You'll have to go to the lounge DIY thread to see the vid and other link...
