Duane, I'm posting this in ELECTRIC section due to TOPIC, and

it will get more exposure. Reasons described below.

The Epi Lounge DIY thread was started back in the "old" forum days,

and it's slowly grown larger and larger, which is GOOD.

Much to my amazement, it's passed 4,000 views.

The MAIN area I'm looking at that needs work is the "Electrical Hum/Buzz, etc"

section. At this point, really only 2 entries, which totally "ain't" cutting it.

We've had various short threads on related topics like cleaning 3 way switch,

etc. Just simple stuff. I don't even have the thread link for that, dangit!

I'm looking for links to Websites, threads, tutorials, etc. that involve

"How to Troubleshoot Electrical/Electronic Problems" in an electric guitar.

I don't care if it's from a stand-alone website, another forum, whatever. If

CREDS need to be given to the original writer, I will.

YEAH, I can do research, and I do, BUT THIS FORUM has many, many members -

and I "figger" THOUSANDS of sets of eyes can get results/suggestions much faster

than just mine. [thumbup]

(On top of that, my current computer virus is still messing with me, I've partially

fixed some of the problems, but it's still there [thumbdn] ).

Any assist/links to look at would be of great help!

After all, we're "The FRIENDLY Forum", yes?

Just not the "sensitive forum", PLEASE! NO, NO, NO!!!!

On the virus issue.. what operating system are you running? If it's XP I can point you towards a great little program that seems to weed out pretty much anything infecting your machine. But it doesn't work on Vista/Win7. As far as the original topic, I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Stumblin' - I'll PM you (Hopefully it'll go thru) on the virus issue in order to keep thread

from accidentally going "off Topic". Yeah, it's XP. If you don't see a PM, YOU PM me. There's

a software glitch in the forum (?) that prevents some members from rcving Pms.

Note: Recieving a PM from a member that you can't reach due to "this member is

not able to rcv new msgs" being displayed when YOU try to send one "opens" a door

to communicate if you "reply" to THEIR PM.

Thanks!

Hi Animalfarm

The humm/buzz is going to resolve down to one of three things reagrdless of whether it's at the guitar or the amp

1.) Bad earth somewhere

2.) EM interference (50/60Hz, radio, whatever)

3.) Ground loop

If it's the guitar and it clears/reduces drastically when you touch the strings then it's an earth problem

If it affects the amp without the guitar plugged in (possibly with or without a cable plugged in) then it's likely to be EM

If you've got several things in the same electrical circuit it could also be a ground loop problem

Could you point me to the OP so that I can get a fuller picture of the prob

Wiggy, Thx for responding! Please re-read post #1, perhaps you misunderstood?

There isn't a problem HERE I'm trying to fix!!!

It's for the DIY thread:

I'm looking for links to Websites, threads, tutorials, etc. that involve

"How to Troubleshoot Electrical/Electronic Problems" in an electric guitar.

Appreciate the insight and enthusiasm, though!

Perhaps this link could bring a little "light"?

Project Guitar - Electronics

I have (had?) another link somewhere, with a great tutorial. However it was for a Strat', but I think it could work for almost any electric guitar, and they showed how to remove any "buzz" or "humm" noise from a guitar - involved rather much soldering. I'll see if I still can find it somewhere..

Thanks for input, MrSaint. I HAVE this Site in the DIY "Tech Tips" section.

It's a great site, BTW. LOTS of topics. I actually need to spend time MYSELF

digging thru all the links in that section. Can't right now, unfortunately -

Computer Virus that refuses to be found. Ready to break out sledgehammer.

Don't want to go into problem in this thread,

anyone with Virus input, just PM me. I HOPE I can respond.

Based on the "Thousands of set of eyes" concept, I've added 3 more topics to DIY.

Were not what I was looking for (see post #1), but they certainly fit in.

Whitmore Willy gave me idea for 2 of 'em, Thanks.

Added:

"Make a Pickguard for LP Special II" - in Make your own PG section.

"Clean Fretboard and POLISH FRETS" - in Projects by Members section.

This topic really doesn't have a "home" yet, but if we see more fretboard-related

topics, could create a section for it... Only time will tell.

"Basic Guitar Set-up" - in (what else?) Git set-up section. This now makes 6 links

on set ups. No more will be added. [-( Only a Face-to-Face lesson by someone doing

a set up can improve on info provided.

Just passing on info, still looking....

Gordy - EXCELLENT LINK! I Saved to favorites, will be looking it over,

thinking about entry "Title".... THANK you! [thumbup]

Holy Doppleganger, Batman - I'm quoting myself!!! [scared]

I looked your link over, said "Ohhhhhhh, Yeah! Put pointer on "Articles",

even a section on "Getting Rid of Guitar Odors", also addresses STINKY CASES - [biggrin]

Suggests "OZIUM". Very familiar with it, just don't put ON git. Read the article!

Thank you to all who have provided feedback.

I've just added (in addition to the three Topics mentioned earlier in this thread):

"GUITAR HUM and NOISE - SEVEN possible causes" to the Git Hum/Buzz/Scratchy Pot Section.

AND

"TROUBLE with BARRE CHORDS?" to the Miscellaneous Section.

EDIT: Just for grins, did a quick count - 85 various topics,

didn't realize...

"I have to admit, it's getting better,

Getting better all the time..." (BEATLES) [thumbup]
