Sound holes on archtops

Recommended Posts

This is an interesting issue. There have been a number of samples of this model pictured at Sweetwater.com with both painted and unpainted F holes. Personally, it really bugs me to see sloppily painted F holes, and apparently it bothers you a lot, too. If you can still return it, you might consider doing so & then look for a nice example with unpainted F holes. If you're unable to find one in stock locally, Sweetwater lets you view pics of each guitar & you'll be able to check out the F holes, wood grain, etc. Also note that the F holes on the Elitist Casino are unpainted, so that might be another option.

I had a similar problem with my Dot, but it was a B-Stock and I only paid $250 for it. I just took a black Sharpie and touched it up. I don't notice anything now. Not sure if it's new or used. If it's new, you could send it back, but you might get guitar with another issue. Or worse, UPS could break the neck. If it plays good I'd probably keep it and touch up the F-Holes.

Thanks guys - yes the guitar is new, and plays superbly. I've had it for a month now, & live in England, but got it from thomann.de.

The f holes aren't too badly painted inside, they're meant to be black. one of them is missing a small section of paint, and was thinking of touching it up, and just wondered if others encounter the same probs, or was i just being picky.

It was a bargain of £550, in england they sell for £700.

You should be able to pick up black gloss model paint and a small detail brush at the local hobby shop. Mask of the area around the F-holes with blue painter's or masking tape, and do the work under good light.

If you press the tape aganst your shirt before you use it, it will reduce the stickiness, and make it less likely to pull of any finish when removed.

It's a shame Epihone can't get these little details right the first time, but such are the problems with mass market products. I had some complaints with my IBJL too, but ende up keeping it, too nice to send back for nits.

If you like the way it plays and sounds its better to make this minor fix than risk damage from shipping and potentially the same or other problems with the next one.

Congrats on the new Casino....
