Banjolina
Rick Jackett of Finger Eleven talks about how he learned to play guitar on an imitation SG. You can actually enter to win an Epiphone SG Special guitar signed by Rick and all of Finger Eleven here http://www.fingereleven.com/guitar/ Just curious what everyone thinks is the best guitar to learn on? RobinTheHood
Well, if your budget is limited, the Specials (be it SG or LP) are great starter guitars. I've said it a billion times and I'll say it again: Epiphone makes great necks, regardless of the model. And when you are just starting out on guitar, thats the part that counts the most. I've done most of my electric guitar learning on a G-310, which is just a step up from the Special. Its basically the same guitar with more options. cjlandry
The best guitar to learn on is the guitar that makes you want to play. Epiphone guitars are just fine for that. Electric guitars aren't rocket science. They're art, and the less expensive copies are prints. Nothing wrong with a print.
Versatile
Some advocate an acoustic for starters which is good advice And/or a well set up electric for easy fretting Agreed it's the motivation which is the key

RaSTuS
This is really a subjective question, everybody will have their own preference, mine is a small radius fender or fender clone, this is simply because I have short fingers and they feel the most comfortable to fret for me. The answers given by cjlandry and Versatile hit the nail on the head, what the player finds most comfortable and motivates them to want to practice.
