1965 Elitest Casino the correct finish color?

Hi Ya'll,

Kind of a silly question perhaps, but on the Elitist Casino it seems to have a Walnut like solid color body back instead of the Sunburst like on my MIC version. [confused] Were the real made in USA 1965 origials the walnut or sunburst? I truly don't know and haven't seen a Lennon USA version. I would presume they were dead on correct.

Really thinking on dropping the hammer on the Elitist esp if I can sell my near new M.I.C. Sunburst Casino.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah the backs (and sides) on the Sunburst originals were the stained walnut colour. The back of my USA Lennon 1965 model is walnut coloured which I think looks fantastic.

The elitists are fine guitars so go for it!!! You won't regret it.

+1. I've had my Elitist for a couple of months and really, really like it! [thumbup]

I had two elitist casinos, one fantastic and one ok. The fantastic one had a b7 bigsby which improved sustain and tone. The other lacked the magic that the good ond had. Maybe I was just unlucky. I also had an elitist riviera that I deeply regret selling.

The '65 Lennon is a beauty though.

Well, my Casino Elitist just arrived in a box the size of a coffin!! It is really beautiful, but I was wondering about a few more things (need to "stop my mind from wondering, where it will go"). [rolleyes]

I have my Standard MIC Casino up for sale, and have 45 days to preview the Elitist. The tuner keys are just standard looking Grovers on the the Elitist. The ones on my Standard are smaller & look more "vintage" a style. Which one, if either are correct for a 1965 Casino? I would presume the ones the Beatles had were special made for them maybe, unless they were just bought off a shelf at some store? Also, I do have to say I like the "E" for the TRC vs. the Elitist and dang it anyway, it's larger and I can just replace it with the "E" version.

Someday I'm going to just have to see someone about being so "anal retentive" on things. [biggrin] Same with my Harleys. Every little detail. YeeeHawww

I'm going to play the two this AM and see what I think there.

Coments, except on the detail picky Aster [flapper] , are most welcome and hoped for.

I have a '09 Elitist Casino and a '04 Korean Peerless Casino. The Elitist has better overall build quality and the Gibson made P90s, but the Peerless version also has it's own unique tone & feel, so I've decided to keep it as well. You might choose to keep both or just one, but really, don't get too hung up on the visual-vintage details. After all, these are simply overseas factory guitars, no matter what country they're being pumped out of. Btw, the now discontinued Lennon-USA version did not originate in the USA as noted in the above chart. The body was built by Terada in Japan (the same folks that build the Elitists) and then shipped to Gibson for electronics & final assembly. It is definitely the closest to true vintage specs, and is widely considered to be the best of the Casino reissues.

Thanks for the good info everyone and the chart is great!!! And dang it, I wish she was in the box. It was big enough to hold her and that would have made the New Guitar Day a happy one for sure. [woot] Does someone make the little "black washer" that goes under the 3way selector switch or do you just cut one out of the bottom of a black 35mm film canister?

I'll try out the Elitist some more as I did like the way it felt & does sound different than my standard Casino. Plugged & unplugged. I'm not quite sure what the diff. is in a Laminated maple top & a 5 ply maple top. Unless the Laminated is maybe 3 ply's or something. Ain't ply's a "lamination" technique?

The Elitist is a good looking guitar, nice binding, great back/neck finish & a really nice sunburst for sure. Now I have to decide if I'm just going to keep the Standard (it hasn't sold on the Trading Post or on Craig's List yet. I won't just give it away as it was too good a git from the many I went thru to find a great one. I'll just take it to my office and have something to play there when I can't stand the paperwork or programming any more.

Thanks again. I'll be experimenting with some different strings. Any suggestions? I do like the Beatles sound and have had some good luck with the GHS strings.
