Cab Question

Closed and open back?

Closed will be tighter, dry sounding.

Projects straight out - loud as hell in front, drops quickly to the side.

That's how you can stand right beside a Marshall and survive - walk in front and OUCH!!!

Open back sounds warmer with all the sound waves bouncing everywhere.

The volume doesn't change as much with positioning of the cabinet.

Personally, I prefer open backs.

Ohms MUST be matched to the output of the head.

No good or bad really - too low causes problems the head can't handle.

At some point you'll have smoke if you drive it hard.

Ohms too high simply muzzles the amp output.

2x12 sounds better at low volumes - more chorusy and lush.

Loud?

More cones move more air - maybe a slight increase in perceived volume.

Ask around - gather a consensus.

Depends what you play, what kinda music you like.

The trademark Marshall sound is sealed cabs driven like hell.

Blues and lotsa rock is open cabs.

Most Fenders are open, and they're the most common.
