New Machine Heads

Recommended Posts

I just bought an LP Traditional Pro but want to change out the hardware from chrome to gold. The LP came w/ Grover Locking Keystone tuners (14:1) which as far as I can tell, come in Nickel only. I'd like to replace them with another locking tuner... Grovers would be fine but I don't want to mod the guitar... esp the holes in the headstock. Any suggestions?

Something here should match up

I'm very familiar w/ Stewmac (the link you provided). I'm in the hunt for "something (that) should match up...." I just don't want to order something and it not be right or need mods to the headstock.

I'm specifically asking if anyone knows if there is a locking machine head in gold which would be a direct replacement for the Grover Locking Keystones that come stock on this LP. By direct replacement I mean one that is the same diameter and preferrably would use the same screw holes as well.

They'll probably fit, but screw holes are another story

I kinda figured that'd be the case....bummer!

Okay, I have my answer (in case there are others in the same boat). I bought Grover 106G self-locking tuners and they are a perfect fit. No drilling new screw holes - no reaming peg holes - just take the olds ones out and put the new ones in; it really was just that simple (thank you Lord)! The stock Grovers had a 14:1 gear ratio; these 106's are 18:1 and Morrison Brothers Music (www.mobro.net) sells them for $52.95 plus $4.90 shipping & handling - by far the best deal to be found. If you have a Trad Pro and are looking to change tuners, go for these with no hassle.
