It is best not to rely on it as the mechanical contact if possible but sometimes it is unavoidable, Bus wire on back of pots for instance. Just sayin' You are correct - but it's best to avoid it when possible. I was addressing a previous post that said solder does not make the electrical contact... djroge1 Posted April 29, 2011 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I would say that if you can afford it go ahead and get a variable temp soldering iron. Chances are you will be a life long guitar player and tinker with various things. Also if you get your solder at a hardware store there is a difference between electrical solder and plumbing solder - don't use the plumbing solder. If you buy wire that is Teflon coated it won't burn as easy when you overheat the wire (everyone does at some point) or if you accidently touch another wire with the iron.
