2000 Epiphone Casino Promo Need help with ID

I need some help and you may question my intelligence but here's what happened. Driving by a Pawn Shop and they were having a tent sale. Saw a couple guitar cases and figured what the heck. Pulled in and sitting on a table was this black Epiphone Casino. Had a hard shell case and a $299 price tag and I figured what the heck. It was autographed by Steve Earl but I think we all know how that can end.

So I get it home and suddenly realize this thing is virtually brand new and has never been played. It still has plastic on the pickups and except for fingerprints, it is pristine. So now I am thinking the autograph might be real

Called Epiphone gave them the serial number and it matched an ebony casino manufactured in 2000 and while the person I was talking to was very nice,

all he could tell me was the guitar was annotated as a "PROMO" but he didn't know what that meant. I asked if the Steve Earl autograph was real he said he couldn't say but there was a very good possiblity it was.

So what did I stumble on to?

Welcome to the forum, hope you like it around here.

Grats on the geet, looks like you've lucked onto something special there, especially given the price you paid, alas I'm not very good at model IDs, but I'm sure others can help you on that front, HNGD and enjoy.

Seems to me, you have done all you could do unless and until someone with first hand knowledge of the signing comes up with a story.

Epi is THE source, and if THEY have it in their records as a promo, it seems to match what you have.

As far as checking the serial #, unless Epi does NOT have info and you have to find someone who may have some data base Epi doesn't have, THEN you need to seek. But if Epi has it, you should be sure they are telling the facts. No reason to validate, I would think.

I'd say that there's a pretty good chance that the sig. is legit and maybe the guitar was given away in some promotion by a music store or radio station.Steve is a pretty open and friendly guy,I'm sure that if you contacted him on his website or Facebook or MY Space site he would get back to you with a reply, especially if you're a big fan like I am.

I'd check the spelling again, too - he's Steve Earle with an e at the end. This could have been signed by Steve Earl, an optometrist in Akron, Ohio. ;)

Sorry about the typo... I Was aware that the name was Steve Earle. I actually posted to one of his forums and sent an inquiry to his management company. Nothing solid yet.... best guess so far: WROV in Roanoke Va. Have a call into them... Thanks Everyone.. Still not sure where it came from though..
