Sammy Hagar Signature Explorer

You do know he chooses the color not gibson right? They always make the artist make sure he likes everything on the guitar before production starts.

Yeah, I know.

If that's the case here, I wish he would have chosen a color a little more closer to his Les Paul signature model. That wine red, heritage cherry type color.

The ones I've seen him play over the years seem to have been a little darker in color.

Mostly all red, including guards, some without guards, etc.

Maybe he OK'd this design and color, and on a signature I guess that's what counts, but if I were to have seen it without the TRC, the "ghost" Chickenfoot logo, or without knowing who's signature axe it was, I wouldn't immediately think of Sammy Hagar.

Maybe it's his choice, but the whole band logo thing on a guitar is not my cup of tea.

On his Les Paul, I think the Chickenfoot logo on the headstock was a deal breaker for a lot of people on an otherwise great looking guitar. I have a wine red Classic Antique, and it's almost the same guitar looks wise.

On this one, for me the deal breaker is the color.

A flame top is nice, but not necessary.

Nor is body/neck binding, or even block inlays.

I could have lived with a logo on the back that comes and goes depending on the angle that nobody would see anyway.

Or a TRC I could change if I wanted to.

But that color...

That Ferrari, fire engine, "fiesta' type red.

Maybe in-person it's darker than it appears on the web-page.

Although it looks darker in the actual photos of Sammy holding it, the screen shots on the Specs page remind me of the Deans he used in the 80's and the Jacksons he used during the Van Halen years, not his Gibsons.

If it showed some grain like a dark red plain top, no problem.

But it doesn't look like it does.

Like I said, maybe it's darker in-person

What other notable musician plays a Explorer Pro?

I think this signature would have been a good candidate for one.

Explorers or a V's with flame-tops are not typical.

They're special... Like a Signature model.

Ultimately, I would assume it's up to Sammy, who I hope gave real input on how he wanted it.

Here during the late 70's or 80's maybe? -Looks pretty dark. Looks like a RED, or clear guard.

More recently with a nice Pro model.

Have they announced a release date?

With having it's own page with details at the website, probably soon if not already.

The real question is, how long until the units get to the dealers.

There was a list going around of 2011 Gibson models that will be released.

Some of those had a month listing of "2 thru 12".

Assuming this means a run from February thru December, or available during those months.

Now some of those types of models just arrived at a local retailer a few weeks ago.

So in this case, about 3 months from the first avilable date to delivery at the retailer.

And it's a pretty big market location.

There was a model with a month listing of "4", and it arrived last week. So it got there quicker.

The Sammy Hagar Explorer had a month listing of "2".

Each model release is different, maybe some in limited numbers as I assume this might be, etc.

So I imagine it's possible to be seeing them soon, but who knows.

Prices are not in US Dollars

For sure! Binding? Inlays?

What is it with the factory that they can't get beyond the dots on the fingerboards of Explorers? Ahem, the COMPETITION does.

I dont think anything but dots would really fit, if you start adding block inlays I think it would look too funky with the body shape of the Explorer, heck I wish mine didnt have any inlays at all, its no me staring at the fingerboard!

The color is freaking GROSS though, I do not like it at all, now the pic of him holding the flame top pro, now THATS red!

On an SG, or even a Les Paul Jr. a bound fretboard with dots doesn't seem odd.

On an Explorer, with the bound body and neck, blocks seem to go better.

Especially a Pro model with a figured top.

I think the regular trapezoid markers would work too.

And yes, IMO a solid red that shade and that bright, that doesn't show grain makes the guitar look plastic.

On a Gibson, I prefer woodgrain or the solid colors Ebony, White, Gold.

The color reminds me of the Eye guitar:

I think small block inlays would go well on an Explorer.

Actually I don't understand why Gibson does not use small block inlays on more models.

There is also small versions of the trapezoid inlays that some special models use, I like those too.

Frankly i would never buy any Gibson with large block inlays, I find them hideous right down to the inlay on the first fret that is not even supposed to be there...as a marker.

As far as the color, it looks to me that the one he's shown holding

on the Gibson website...

(here)

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Explorer/Gibson-USA/Sammy-Hagar-Signature-Explorer.aspx

is the exact same guitar pictured w/ the fugly color...

(here)

Do a close-up (zoom) in on the fret board.

The figuring is the same.

My guess is that the color in person looks more like the photo

with Sammy holding it. (Which looks really COOL).

What do you guys think?
