It usually results in completely unmusical sounds, but it's cool nonetheless and the noise is sort of the point. Both books seem good, and if you have the time to put into it, I say go for it. Especially when it's like a children's electronic drum toy that's modded to sound all bitcrushed. I've been GASing for a super cheap Boss DS-1 to hack up.
