Ed's Gibson Frankenstein?

Guitar World Magazine's April 2012 issue has a Van Halen cover story.

"The Top 50 Van Halen Songs Of All Time".

In the magazine, as you might imagine, there are pictures of Ed and the band.

On page 62, there's a picture of Ed holding the "Jaws" Explorer, and next to him in an open case is what looks like a early black and white striped version of his Frankenstein guitar.

What caught my attention was the name "GIBSON" on the Strat style headstock.

Hard to tell if it's legit, or something he may have done himself.

Has anyone else seen this?

Or has anyone seen any other pictures of this "Gibson Frankenstein"?

The Frankie, was black/white striped to begin with, before Ed repainted it :)

It has had some different necks over the years too ;) I've seen the same guitar

with both maple and rosewood fretboards. My guess is that he just changed the neck

if the previous one broke for some reason ;)
