NGD- SG SPECIAL REISSUE!

DetroitBlues

Recommended Posts

Its serial number is 000621

from what I read its a Custom Reissue SG Special from 2000. But the case nor the guitar has the "Custom Shop" logo on it. Is it a custom shop guitar?

I've never seen one like it either...

Finish is Ebony, p-90's, dot inlayed bound Rosewood fretboard, gold hardware (Grover tuners), wrap around "lightning bolt" bridge, and maestro vibrato.

I'll try to take pics tonight. Really sweet guitar with a lot of growl to it!!!

On a trade, I just picked up a used Gibson SG Special Reissue. I'm a little stuck though. Anyone on here able to provide me a little more detail on it? How many were made, what was the value when new, what is its value now (home insurance question), and is it really a custom shop guitar?

Are you sure it's a Custom Shop?

"Custom Shop regular production models

CSYRRRR

CS stands for "Custom Shop"

Y indicates the production year

RRRR indicates the guitar's place in the sequence of production

Example: CS10845 is the 845th reg. production CS model produced in 2001."

The serial number seems like a Gibson USA

"In 1977, Gibson introduced the serialization method that we primarily use to this day at Gibson USA, Gibson Acoustic, and the Gibson Custom facility in Memphis, TN.

The serial number will be an 8 digit number impressed into the back of the headstock with "MADE IN USA" below.

The pattern is as follows:

YDDDYRRR

YY is the production year

DDD is the day of the year

RRR is the factory ranking/plant designation number."

Go a little further down....

Gibson Custom

1952-1960 Les Paul, Explorer, Flying V, and Futura reissues (since late 1992):

M YRRR or MYRRRR

M is the model year being reissued

Y is the production year

RRR® indicates the guitar's place production for that year. NOTE: This number includes all models for a particular reissue year - so, for example, a 1958 Reissue serial number may include '58 Reissue LP Standard and '58 Explorer production.

Example: 7 5123 is the 123rd 1957 reissue model produced in 2005.

1961-1969 Firebird, Les Paul, and SG reissues (since 1997):

YYRRRM

Y is the production year

RRR® indicates the guitar's place in production for that year.

M is the model being reissued

Reissue model codes:

1= SG Custom and Special

2= SG Standard

3= 1963 Firebird 1

4= 1964 Firebird III

5= 1965 Firebird V & VII

8= 1968 Les Paul Custom

No idea either. I hoping for some info from Gibson.... Fender is usually good about confirming instruments, this is the only used Gibson I've ever owned.

And what a cool guitar, awesome [thumbup]

Can only guess but it seems to be a 2000 cs sg. No way the USA division made those great bevels

Thanks for the pictures !

The guitar appears to be original; the serial number refers in our database also to an SG Special in ebony, with gold hardware and maestro, made in the year 2000 at the Custom Shop.

There is something in the notes written about "Promo", so it can very well have been a promo guitar, as I cannot find this guitar back in our pricelist from the year 2000.

In 2004 this model became a standard Custom Shop model.

Kind regards,

Stijn

What does "Promo" mean? Just a giveaway guitar?
