SJ-2000

I found this(!) on the Bay Area CL this morning.

No affiliation to the seller, just an interesting guitar, the pics are relatively good too.

Note that there's no "S" -- these are only 16".

The seller is asking top-dollar for this -- I saw a nice J-2000 at a local show for something like $2500 a little over a year ago, and that's more like a good deal -- but it does look like it's in really nice condition and there aren't a lot of them around.

They were listed on the price list in 1991 They retailed for $3,500.00 Both colors VS and AN. They made 8 naturals in 91. No VS.

1992 they came out with the full series The J-1000 J-1500 and J-2000. They shipped 55 AN and 21 VS J-200s.

1993 the J-1000 and J-1,500 are gone and the J-2000 is called the J-2000 Custom and lists for $4010.00

1994 they are off the price list but records show they shipped 6

They continue to ship them but don't have them on the price list after 1993.

Gibson shipping records show a total of 24 VS were shipped from '91 thru to 2004. They shipped 101 ANs from '91 to 2004

These are very good guitars. Back in the time they were introduced the buying public was more interested in traditional Gibson's and the sales of this "new" series suffered form that. This would be a better time to re-introduce them as they are great stage guitars. I always thought they got the bridge wrong. The round part of the bridge wings should be reversed and it should be on the bottom facing the butt of the guitar. Just a thought.

Hogeye,

Do you have any shipping data for the J-1000 and J-1500 separate from the J-2000? My sense has always been that, of the three models, the J-1500 was produced in the least numbers.

Here's a '92 J-1500 in VS (looked very pretty, didn't sound all that great....); the right pic is a '96 J-2000 that was begun in '94:
