MissouriPicker Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I recently, on a whim, bought a Cigar Box Guitar. I think that I might try to build one in the not-to-distant-future. I've heard they can be pretty easy, but I'm a guy that has trouble putting-together the model houses for an HO railroad. But, I'll see.........Anyway, this one was pretty darn cheap. I tuned this thing GDG and there are literlly no wrong notes...lol...just my kind of instrument. I do like the primitive sound I can get from it, and I'm no guitar picker.
retrorod Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Hope you enjoy it MP I have built 25 or so...sold and gave away most of them. It is very addictive once you get 'in the groove'. Here is a pic of five of them in 2009...... The 2nd from left is a 4-string black walnut neck with a pie tin resonator I use poplar and oak for necks also. These are all fretless bottleneck style. flatbaroque Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Strange but enjoyable....reminds me of a weird cross between an old banjo player Doc Boggs who is on the Harry Smith Folk anthology and a middle eastern oud (stringed instrument)...good fun!
