modfather
Hi all, A bit of advice needed in a impulse on Fri night I bought this beauty of ebay Cost me £599 I have been after a Elitist Casino for a while but just out of my price bracket when I seen this I just had to have it, Being a massive Paul Weller fan it is the closest I ahve seen to his 1968 Ice tea Casino added some pics Any thoughts on this would be apreciated although it is a bit late to find out I paid too much. dubstar
I think jerrymac, iconoclast, and one other person (frenchie?) generally speak well of the MIJ casinos...

I also own an actual 1965 Casino...the differences? negligible..I paid about $900 for mine about six or seven years ago and it's one of my favs.. Mine (and I believe yours is the same model) was a special edition made for a Japanese music store and was called a "'65 Casino"...(currently there's a Japanese-exclusive model called the '64 Casino" ..) and was probably where they got the idea to stick a John Lennon endorsement on it and double the price and call it a Lennon Casino...both essentially made in the same place...nice guitar...as I said, I love mine. [/quote'] Had a chance to buy one about a year ago for $500, at a local store. Had my MIK burst and natural already. Noticed it on the wall becuse of the correct 3 tone burst, more like Lennon's, then pulled it down and it said Japan and had the soild vs swirl markers and same solid black or dark brown back, trapeze seemed a little longer than mine too? and with small nuts holding it instead of large ones on my 2. Didn't plug it in and passed at the time because of my MIKs. Found out more about these after joining the group and went back for it months later, it was a small local shop, and gone. Idiot! Idiot! Idiot! Congrats on yours.

frenchie1281734003
Hi,Modfather. Just back off hols and only just seen your post, that is a very nice pre Elite/Elitist Terada made Casino you have there. These are very very similar in construction to the 76-86 Matsumoku made version, the difference being these Terada`s have a 17th fret neck/body join whereas the Matsumoku`s retained the 16th fret join of the original Kalamazoo version(like Wellers).I think that under the dark stain on the neck of your Casino, you will find if you look closely a three piece Laminated Maple neck, only Matsumoku and Terada used this neck construction on they`re Casino`s,all other versions have used either single or multi piece Mahogany(Terada switched to Mahogany just prior to Elite/Elitist production),i actually prefer the laminated Maple neck, and Gibson themselves used it on the ES340 in the seventies.I believe that the pickups in your Casino are the same as those used in the Matsumoku`s,which are superb anyway.Good luck with your Casino, love the colour. P.S.Paul Weller has stated in the past that his Casino is a 66.I actually think he has a 64(the Trapeze tailpiece on his is different it has grooves instead of the diamond motive, and a few other 64`s have also got that trapeze)The pickup covers on Weller`s Casino are Nickel and the bridge carries Nylon saddles,in 1966 metal saddles and Chrome hardware came in,and the necks started to get thinner, and the quality started to drop a little. If i had the serial number i could say for sure!!. frenchie1281734003
Yes i do Red!!.Thanks for that,it was very early in the morning when i made that post, everything else looks ok with it.One thing i might add,and i`m not a 100% sure, but having handled one of the special run 65 Casino`s that Iconoclast mentions, that one looked more or less exactly like the Lennon 65 Casino(i.e two screw truss rod cover, six inch heavier trapeze, same colour front with dark stained back, grommet behind the switch,Nickel hardware, and Nylon bridge saddles, and all importantly the fret end nibs and 16th fret neck/body join, with a Mahogany one piece neck),where it differed from the Lennon 65 Casino, was in the use of Japanese pickups, electrics,a thin poly finish, and a hand written Blue label in the top f hole, which carried the model designation of" CASINO E230 TD",and a none too legible serial number, with no serial found on the back of the h/stock.The standard Japanese Terada made version prior to the Elite/Elitist model, all carried the 17th fret neck/body join. P.S.has Iconoclast replaced the three screw TRC with a two screw, because Modfather`s is a three screw?.
modfather
Thanks for the info Frenchie, Yeh the neck is 3 piece , Re Wellers Casino I stand corrected with him thinkin it a 66 model It is his SG that is a 68. Still the closest Casino I have seen to his without the massive Price tag. Oh Happy Days
frenchie1281734003
Modfather, first thing i do whenever i get any of my Casino`s out to play,is set my amp up by playing Weller`s "Hung up",then when i`m happy with that, straight into "Sunflower"&"The changing man"...Ah Casino heaven!!.And these Jap made Casino`s absolutely nail it(with a decent amp,i.e.Marshall Bluesbreaker or a Vox AC30).
