  1. Back from another acoustic job at Crabtowne. We played a very loose set and pulled a bunch of stuff out of our A$$es. We used a really simple set-up with just 2 acoustic guitars, 2 mics and 1 Kustom PA speaker. It worked great.

Other than the people who were just there to chow down on seafood, my wife and some of our friends made for a pretty lively crowd. We hung around after breaking down until closing time. I'd say it was a good night. B)

  2. I'm late to the party. 3am here and just getting in. And that's with a bar 10 minutes from my home. Gig went until 1:45. Poor keyboard player had about 1.5 hour drive!

Got off to a negative start as we were loading in, some dude was going crazy in the bar smashing bottles and sh!t and had to be physically thrown out. Bad weather all around us, but somehow our area was spared the storms like RCT got. Humidity like a wet blanket though. Gig went OK. Not great, but not bad. Just OK. I got no photos.

Gonna finish this glass of Irish whiskey and get to bed now. B)

  3. I've been learning a lot of funk, R&B and even disco stuff for this one group I've been playing with. "Cut The Cake" by The Average White Band. "I'll Be Around" by The Spinners. Brick House" The Commodors. Stuff I never imagined I'd be playing in a band. They are all pretty easy as far as chord changes. Just have to get the "feel" right.

Also learned "Baker Street" and the solo. B)

  4.

I probably would have been making my own post late tonight, but the venue we were booked at was suddenly and mysteriously shut down yesterday. :-k

Oh dear. That's never good, sorry to hear that.

Well, one good thing. Their marquee, with our bands name, hasn't been changed since the Friday before our band was scheduled to play. So we've been getting free advertising along a very busy Rt 40 for going-on two weeks now. [thumbup]

  5. Just got in from one of the most hot, humid, muggy gigs I ever played. Almost had to swim though the air! Great crowd though, and the staff loves us there. We had a guest guitarist sitting in tonight which made things a little cramped, but it was cool having him join us.

Taking a page from RCT's book, I'll post our rigs and Set Lists.

  6. Long night. Just got in about 0230. Poured a little Sagamore Rye and logged on....

We played pretty well even though our female singer's voice was horse. Crowd was decent but by the 3rd set hardly anyone was left. So we figured we had nothing to lose and did and impromptu "Whipping Post". Three of us used to play that one in our old band, but last time we did it was probably 2010. Problem tonight was our drummer has never played it and he was having a hellava time. Literally. [biggrin]

I had a good view of the big TV and got to watch the O's beat the stinky Sox while I played. [tongue]

Guess I'll finish this Sagamore and go to bed soon. I hear birds chirping already.

  7. Well here I am again. This time just back from a full band gig. Nice place and great crowd tonight. And this was only a 9-12 show. Pretty nice only doing 3 hours instead of 4 and getting home at a little more decent time.

I think I'll just go to bed without even pouring myself some scotch or bourbon since I just yawned and gleeked all on the laptop. #-o[blush]

  8. Just got in from a night at a little bar in Dundalk (East Baltimore). It was a "meh" night. We only brought out a few people and then there were some locals. We ended up taking a little less pay cause I now they didn't make much $. The crowd that was there liked us, as well as the staff who said we are their favorite band that plays there, for what that's worth. I didn't think to photo out set list, like rct. ( great song selection BTW)

Came home and poured some Dewar's to unwind, and gonna hit the bed soon. Good night all. B)

  9. Just home after three hours on the deck at a beach bar. These gigs are easy and fun. You have to keep it pretty chill in the first set - stick to mellow stuff. But by the end you can crank it up a bit. Used a '68 Fender Princeton that always sits perfectly with the other guys acoustic. That combo makes me happy.

Yeah. I'm kinda digging these acoustic gigs more and more. Just me and one other guy to split pay, simple PA setup and laid back music. [thumbup]

  10. Well, just got in from long night of rehearsing and business. Agent guy was there and local promoter guy was there. The "season" kinda starts next week and they just filled in the rest of the summer. Couple outdoor covered flatbed things, and they picked up a few more bar nights. It was a very tiring, good night.

Congratz on a productive night. [thumbup]

I got in around 12:30 from an acoustic thing and uncharacteristically went straight to bed. Gotta do a private party with my full band today. Getting ready to leave now.

  11. Well, it's 3AM my time and I just got in from another bar gig. This one in Columbia MD. I would have been home about 30 minutes sooner, but I was starving and had to stop again at RoFo for some chicken.

The good thing about tonight was, they have their own PA and sound guy. All we brought were our amps, drums and in-ear monitors. Good crowd. Even though many people were there just to watch ACC basketball semi-finals, most of them stuck around all night.

Now I have to get to bed. I have rehearsal with another band tomorrow (today) and I've barely even gone over the songs we're going to play. #-o

  12. Interesting, never heard of that before so had to look it up. I love develed eggs, people make those different ways but I like them the way my mom did it when I was little. She put the egg yolk in a dish then added mustard and a little Vinegar and stirred and put it back in the egg white and added salt and pepper with a tad bit paprika. Deb makes them with miracle whip and pickle juice. Not as good to me.

I had never heard of one either until a few weeks ago. On an episode of Live From Daryl's House during the cooking segment. It was the one with Chris Daughtry. My son's girlfriend is from England and has been staying with us since the summer, so I asked her about them. She told me it's a popular dish over there. So when I was in this Irish Pub in Fells Point I had to try it. Can't say I've made one myself yet.

  13. I'm currently playing with 4 different line-ups, so I've been trying to keep up with all the different set lists. Of course, the different line-ups have some overlapping members and one is an acoustic duo that plays mainly simple 3 and 4 chord songs. I pretty much just learn enough to fake my way through them on my own, and if we get a rehearsal I will work on a specific way to play it with the band.

Some of the diverse songs I've been trying to cram are:

Billy Jean [blush] , Valerie-Amy Winehouse, Honesty-Billy Joel, Uptown Funk, Black Velvet, Takin It To The Streets, Jesse's Girl, Dreams-FM, Black Friday-Steely Dan, Beginnings-Chicago,......

I could go on with more but I should start practicing.

  14. Just in from a 3 hour gig. I should be sleeping already since I have to get up in a few hours for the day job, but you know how it is.

On the bright side we tried out a drummer and bassist tonight, and they did really well. So it looks like our little trio is a proper band now. We may still do the trio thing for mellow settings but we can really blast now as well.

Nice. Gotta love a Wednesday night gig. B)

I'm doing an acoustic gig tonight from 6-9pm. Should be a good time.

  15.

Does anyone else have road dreams?

You finally get into bed after the gig and go to sleep; you dream that you are on the road, still driving....travelling through the dark....headlights coming toward you.

At that point you wake up QUICK as you just might really be on the road, and had drifted off.

I'm used to it now though.

    Best wishes to all.

Sometimes...later in the evening, as I lie awake in bed. The echos from the amplifiers are ringing in my head. And I smoke the days last cigarette remembering what she said... eusa_whistle.gif

  16. Well, I never thought that this topic would be as popular as "The Song Association Game" thread, but I thought a few more people would play along.

Guess I'll play by myself. [flapper] And try one more time to revive it.

Got in about 1am, from a 7-11 gig. Nice place with a great crowd. We brought some people plus a nice regular crowd. Some hot dancers [drool] My Carvin amp was cookin' nicely now that it's fixed properly. We were packed up by 12ish but it's a little bit of a drive from my house and I stopped for some RoFo chicken on the way home. Hence me getting in after 1am.

    Overall a great night. B)

  17. Just got in from what was probably the last gig for me of 2016. It's about 2:45 AM. Actually got home about an hour ago, but I saw some of my neighbors (who were at my gig earlier) were still up as I pulled into my house. So I went and drank with them for awhile before coming into the house.

OK gig. My amp (which is already a back-up) died on me though. [cursing]

  18. For those of us who play out on a regular or semi-regular basis.

When you get in late, but can't go right to bed. Come here and wind down by checking-in and posting some details of the night.

It's about 3:30am my time, but I've been home almost an hour. Grabbed some pretzels and poured some cheap rye whiskey. Started surfing The Lounge for awhile, then this idea hit me.

It was our second night of back-to-back gigs. Tonight's was better than Friday. Place was a mid sized local bar but had a decent crowd. We brought quite a few folks in. We played really well and they loved us. Plus there were some really nice sights to see as we played, if you know what I mean. Wink Wink Nod Nod B)

Now someone else turn. Probably have to wait til next weekend though.
