  1. I had a similar issue with my 2004 Studio when I first purchased it. There was a buzz that would go away if I touched the bridge. Sometimes I would just move a certain way when I had it strapped on, and the best way I can describe it would be the sound of a creaky door when opened. :-k Someone suggested to me at the time that it might be the plastic cover for the posts on the back building up static.

These things were mildly annoying to me, but the guitar played so nicely and sounded so good I just dealt with it. After all, it made no difference when I was actually playing music. It was only when I was standing there not playing anything when I would notice it. I could always temporarily turn the volume knob down. When I would jam with friends or play gigs, there was usually enough other noises around to drown out a slight buzzing from my guitar.

Long story short. It wasn't that big a deal to me to override my enjoyment of a guitar that I otherwise loved playing. It eventually went away, or I just stopped noticing it.

  2. Awesome thread! So many great looking studios in here. This is my first Gibson - after years of being a strat guy I'm 100 percent converted. So, for my 1st post I present my 60's tribute:

Great guitar. Congratz on coming over to Gibson side. Now you've got to get one with humbuckers [biggrin]

  3. Love them both. The '50's neck on my '68 RI plays great--fat neck and heavy body. Plus, the extra wood has the psychological effect of making the guitar feel more vintage to me (since I can't afford a real vintage LP!). The '60's neck on my LP DC is very fast and the body is quite light. Reminds me a bit of the Wizard neck on my old Ibanez (though the '60's neck is thicker). This gives the guitar a much different character than the '68 RI. I like having both options on two very different LP's.

I'm not trying to be a smart *ss, but why would a '68 RI have a 50s neck? :-k

  4. I'm a 50s neck guy too. I just like the way the rounded back fits my hand. My Studio has a 50s neck and my friends R7 has an even fatter baseball bat neck and I love playing that guitar. It's probably a little more difficult to play fast scales, but I can deal with that.

I find that if I play for any length of time on a real thin neck, (say like on some Strats) my hand tires out and I'm constantly "shaking out" my left hand at every opportunity.

  5. I have the exact same guitar as you

How does it play for you?

Yeah, I noted that in your thread about the B string.

Mine plays great. I love the fat neck, nice action, a little weight so I know I'm holding something and the pickups handle vintage stuff as well as balls-out rock.
