  1. Thank you, Brc, for sharing this report here. I knew that his right elbow joint wasn't working after a car accident but didn't know how it had come. His story gave and still is giving me hope six and a half years after my then-wife hamstringed my right hand by consciously tearing off the suture two days after my carpal tunnel surgery of my right hand. It's still not sure I will be able to take my right hand with me in my grave.
  2. Hello Gary, and welcome here. New guitars of all makes tend to lack tuning stability for a certain period, at least all of mine did. My newest one still does less than two weeks after buying and setup which I think is normal. All of them have manual tuners, partly locking, partly not. Two minutes are normal for precise manual tuning, and one will have to rework after warming up strings. I don't want to put down MinE-Tune and GForce here, but the fastest way of tuning are finetuning tailpieces and Floyd Rose vibrato bridges I think. Using them takes me a few seconds only.
  3. What a crazy beauty - congrats! Attachments are limited to 500 kB per account. The usual procedure is uploading them to a cloud account e. g. at photobucket and link them here.
  4. Hello Keith, whatever may be, I want pictures first...
  5. Welcome here, nice guitar by the way. Sorry for having to tell this, but up to now I wasn't able to nail down my own 70's L6-S which was later called Custom. Anyway, I am not too bothered about that.
  6. Can confirm this for all of my guitars with all their different smells.
  7. Don't know Carmex lip balm in person, but it takes just a few minutes until my left hand smells like Gibson when playing a three-year-old one. My right hand may need more than a hour for that though.
  8. The person who left a vehicle unlocked, let alone including keys, would be prosecuted here for complicity on whatever happened later. Moreover, unauthorized "borrowing" the vehicle is not defined as theft here.
  9. At least she would be not to blame for ridges or gaps in the finish along binding edges.
  10. Would you love her doing so? Seems as if her fragrance is matching that of your new LP... ;)
  11. Same here. Anyway, I guess that "our" way of playing won't make board and frets go up in smoke that fast. ;)
  12. Since I guess you just "breathe" your guitars and don't "smoke" them, your scent will give you the very perception of their real spirit. ;)
  13. Now that you mentioned it, you're absolutely right. I always wondered what might be the other scent besides vanilla - almond is it! Interestingly, my glossy Gibsons have more of a vanilla smell whereas the "worn" or vintage gloss ones rather spread the flavour of almond. This makes pretty likely that it has to do with the recipes of both finish and polish as you suggested. Thank you very much for your enlightening contribution. You're a genius, CB, in olfaction and brains as well! Is this perhaps due to the permanent, natural venting of gig bags compared to cases? I think that gig bags are far less of an enclosure than hardcases. Although also a case cannot be considered as sealed in this respect, it delays evaporation of solvents or aromas significantly I guess.
  14. @ Pin & @ Aymara: I think it can be guitar or case as well. As I posted in #32, there are cases like Fender made by G&G which smell rather intensely. This odour will transfer to polyester and polyurethane finishes, too, so the guitars smell like the cases. The smell of Gibson guitars seems much stronger to me than that of their cases, and the case does adopt the scent of the nitro finish in my opinion.
  15. Just found out that the alumina mineral modification used for making Corian is named Gibbsite: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibbsite However, finally it was sorted by a Tusq force... ;)
  16. Seems correct to me. The "Plus Outfit" of the current Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus Outfit obviously refers to the top veneer. Veneers on multipiece backs are common also on other Epiphones coming stock with translucent or transparent finishes.
  17. This might happen when researching for Limited Edition, Limited Run, or Special Run guitars. It is the case with two Gibson Les Paul guitars of mine, too, and they even never appeared on the Gibson website. Same may apply to many factory special request instruments of several brands, made exclusively for a certain dealer or retail chain. E. g. the Epiphone Negative Series made for the Canadian Long & McQuade shops belong here.
  18. Then it has to be the case. Some more later, I will go to the European Parliament election now.
  19. My Gibson cases made in Canada smell somewhere between vanilla, glue, and lining conditioner. The vanilla part of it is rather intense when the guitar or bass has a glossy finish. Those with "worn" or "satin" or "vintage gloss" finishes which basically are the same are less vanilla but pretty close to Fender USA cases. The recent Gibson cases from Costa Rica have more of a solvent smell which competes with the vanilla part of glossy finishes, and seems to predominate the smell of satin finishes. My Epiphone case smells much like solvents, Fender ABS cases from Asia simply smell like plastic, and Fender G&G vintage cases made in USA smell like glue and lining conditioner to my nose. I don't think it's the silica gel bag content or the bag itself. Most guitars, basses, and, if applicable, separate cases of mine, made by at least six different manufacturers, interestingly came containing bags of same make. When regenerating the silica gel in the baking oven, these bags smell just like nothing.
  20. Sorry for having asked, can't tell if I don't remember or didn't know before.
  21. Do they come in white/uncoloured, too?
  22. Agree entirely, with the fact as well as the surprise. <_<
  23. I agree. It seems hard to discern between these influences.
  24. Never put them off for weighing them, but this clearly surpasses a stop bar's weight. I guess this is why my Frank Zappa "Roxy" SGs are that nicely balanced despite of being rather light.
