  1. This is the longest straight edge I have that isn't too long to fit between the saddle and nut. It's centered on the fretboard.
  2. That’s an excellent price! Wish I was close enough to check it out. https://akroncanton.craigslist.org/msg/d/kent-gibson-wm-00-acoustic-guitar/7016113441.html
  3. Opened the guitar up this morning and it's in great shape and sounds wonderful. Very little play wear. The finish around the sound hole on the bass side is a little sloppy. The strings feel like they might be .11's. Looking forward to trying out some Martin Retro .12s on it. The neck needs a little relief. The only issue I'm struggling with right now is the saddle height, but maybe I'm being overly paranoid. Great break angle, but check out the pics of this thing. I don't think I've ever seen a saddle this tall, though I'm relatively new to SJ's. Since the saddle has been swapped (not compensated) it makes me wonder if they adjusted the action at the nut too low for their liking and tried to fix it by putting a taller saddle? Sighting from the headstock down the neck, the fretboard is almost perfectly aligned with the top of the bridge.
  4. Some of the 2016 Legend models were the Fuller's custom run with fully torrefied back and sides, which were amazing!
  5. Great job, Sal. I'm happy to see you sharing again. I always enjoy your performances.
  6. Not the case. PM sent. Luckily, my wife agreed after a brief conversation. I had balanced the checkbook last week and knew what her spending had been. 😎 Thanks. Hoping for the same. There is a lot truth in your post. I just love the look of the white/green keystones on a SJ200. They really do it for me.
  7. I've read good reviews of them, so I took a leap of faith. Hoping it all works out.
  8. Agreed! Still hoping it will be staying here for a long while.
  9. ...is the hardest part. I've been searching for a maple SJ for the last month and half or so. Played eight total (six SJ200's & two J150's) in that time. One brand new SJ200 at GC was stellar (but out of my price range), the rest were good to great, sans one dud. I hoped to purchase something I could get my hands on first, but pulled the trigger last Thursday on a 2018 SJ200 natural from Golden Age Fretted Instruments. I was hesitant to purchase without playing it first, but hope that going through a reputable dealer will eliminate some guesswork and potential problems. I spoke with John, and he said everyone in the shop agrees it's a good one. Hoping that's the case, as he made me a good deal on it. Scheduled to deliver this Thursday, and then it has to acclimate for a day or two before I can try it out. I'm interested to check out the metal Grover Keystones. I prefer the aesthetics of the Grover 135 or Gotoh Vintage keystones, so if it's a keeper, I may swap them out. I find it interesting it has an uncompensated saddle, as I thought all recent SJ200's had them. John assured me the neck angle is good and it wasn't swapped to fix an issue.
  10. Congrats! I hope you get many years of enjoyment from it. I too have Gibson SJ maple fever at the moment.
  11. Congrats on your new J45! Kudos to you for playing for your friends as well. It takes guts. You'll be surprised how much you can grow when playing in front of or with others. I'm all in on the Martin Retro's on my mahogany guitars. Personally, I loathe the sound of fresh Retro's, but I love the sound of them after they break in. For that reason, I have a Tonerite (not trying to start an argument about it's merits) that I use solely to break in the Retro's after a string change. 24 hours on the Tonerite and they're good to go. I find them bright and harsh before break-in. After, I find them colorless in that they simply let the guitar speak for it's self without adding their own flavor so to speak. On my guitars, I get a nice, dry, woody sound out of them.
  12. Congrats, Sal. Hope you share some recordings when you get a chance.
  13. I'd love to take that minty J150 that's collecting dust off your hands. Looking for a great one.
  14. BTW, if anyone else is looking for one, don't buy the J150 listed on Guitar Center in Houston. I ordered it online last week and it arrived smelling to high heaven of menthol cigarettes. On the other hand, if you're the one in a million guitar player that's looking for one and smokes menthols, this could be the guitar of your dreams. It played/sounded great.
  15. ISO a used maple back & sides SJ-200 / SJ-200 TV / SJ-150 / SJ-100 Xtra. If anyone has a lead on a nice one, please let me know. Thanks.
  16. It is a great guitar, but I’m not jonsing for it. I used the outing to narrow my options. I've been torn between a Hummingbird and J200, but last night sealed the deal for me. I played the CW, two Hummingbird Vintage, and four J200’s. One of the four J200's was great, another one of them was stellar. Wish I had the scratch to buy new. I would have brought it home with me. Unfortunately, the budget my wife has agreed to will require going used. I did purchase a used J150 this week from GC that sounded and looked great, however it and the case arrived smelling to high heaven of menthol cigarettes. It was returned last night. If you're looking for one, don’t buy the one at Guitar Center in Houston, Texas. Unless of course you're a smoker, and then it could be a match made in heaven.
  17. I played one of these at Fuller's yesterday, and it is a stellar sounding guitar. Heads and tails better than the 2017 Hummingbird Vintage hanging next to it. The pick guard looks better in person, but I'm still not a fan of it. I don't care for the cherry colored back and sides either. But it has tone for days and played like butter.
  18. Got the guitar and it sounds great, but it and the case stink to high heaven of menthol cigarettes. Not that good of a price for me to keep it and mess with trying to kill the odor.
  19. I ordered a used J150 from Guitar Center online today. My go to strings on mahogany guitars are Martin Retros because of the sound and longevity. I'm curious to know if anyone has tried them on their J100/J150/J200 and what you're thoughts are?
  20. This guitar is going to haunt me for a long time, and I didn't even get my hands on it. I wish CME would do a special run of these in TV or Vintage form (TV would be preferable, IMO). I bumped Karl's May 2018 AGF post soliciting requests with the suggestion.
  21. To add insult to injury, I showed my wife tonight and she said I should have bought it 😢
  22. This is a cross post as I mentioned it in the Sheryl Crow Country and Western thread, but I wanted to share this natural topped 2010 Hummingbird True Vintage that went up for sale at Dave's yesterday. Unfortunately, it sold in the first 24 hours after posting. I didn't know a natural topped version even existed as I've only seen the burst version. What a stunning guitar, IMO. I have lusted after a TV for years, and actually called about this one yesterday, but I didn't purchase it because I didn't want my wife to castrate me. I got back on their site this morning thinking about buying it anyway, but it was already sold. I hope someone here was able to snag it! Dave's Posting
  23. Agreed. Check out this 2010 Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage that popped up used on Dave's website yesterday for $2,495. It sold in less than 24 hours of being listed. I've never seen a natural TV. Looks amazing. Such a difference the pick guard makes. I actually called and almost bought it, but knew my wife would castrate me if I did. 😱
  24. An SJ200 Vintage and this NOS 2015 Hummingbird Maple Quilt because as much as I like the sound of the Dove, I'm not a fan of the aesthetics. Plus OP said he's sold on short scale: https://www.killervintagespecialtyguitars.com/product-page/2015-gibson-hummingbird-quilt As for the TV designation on the OP's Hummingbird Vintage, I think this an example of Gibson's goofy naming choices. I think the TV refers to the burst only.
