  1. cheers Willy, I will go and do some googling along these lines of enquiry.
  2. Well, it certainly did the trick. You could wire in a switch so that you can enable/disable the high pass filter when ever you want. Just for the record, I preferred your sound with no mod on, clean and dirty. Especially the dirty, it sounded low and mean and growly with out the extra capacitor B) . But that's just my opinion and it's based on an mp3 recording played back through my laptop connected to the aux input of my site radio. I wonder if this discovery could be used to stop the sound getting slightly muted when the volume control is down low? edit: I'll have a proper listen later on the desk top PC which is connected to a decent HI-FI
  3. That is a very good point Rastus. If This mod lives up to expectation, I may try some sort of rotary switch on one of my guitars with several different capacitors, including one position with no capacitor. Perhaps My Ibby, one volume, one tone~(essentially a variable low pass filter), and a switch-able High pass filter.
  4. This is indeed interesting information, But surely if you are playing with mega distortion and the bottom end is muddy and messy, then in theory you could just turn down the bass on the amp to get the same effect as filtering out some of the bass at the source without having to make permanent ...well, semi permanent alterations ?? Correct me if my understanding here is wrong.
  5. there are soooooooo many different pickups out there and a persons idea of the perfect sound is so subjective. If you do decide to go for the l-500xl then please write us a review. ;)
  6. No matter what upgrades or how well made an epi is, It is still made out of "Eastern mahogany" instead of real Mahogany. Eastern mahogany could be one of any number of tonewoods that have similar tonal characteristics as real mahogany but are not even a related species. I love epi's because they are built to the same specifications, so if you are willing to invest a little time and money changing hardware and electrics, you can create a beautiful sounding and playing instrument that is practically indistinguishable in sound to all but the fussiest ears.
  7. that really is a beautiful guitar [biggrin] I can't help feeling slightly jealous. i liked your video clips, your guitar sounds fab too.
  8. You can hear a distinct difference between these two Les paul guitars, In my opinion the stock gibby pickups sound loads better than the stock Epi ones. I was expecting them to have very little perceptible difference and didn't listen with ears that were assuming the epi ones to sound cheap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqxsm6w7m5o

  13. lemon and tea-tree oil shower gel is just like lemon curd!

  14. Where did you find them all? . I really like the metallic red one, never seen that before.
  15. could still have 3 way toggle but use a pot of some sort as a blender for the middle position, or if there is a volume for each pick up then you have two pots as a blender anyway.
  16. I have one too! here my one is the natural CMT finish aswell, but with chrome hardware (non steinberger) it is not all original because i bought it in a right mess, and made it my project. The original pups were totaly jiggered as was most of the wiring and pots, the set up was dreadful, the volume and tone knobs were missing and so was the whammy bar. I replaced the pups with kent armstrongs and replaced one of the pick up surrounds. and set about trying to find parts that were as close to the originals as possible. still haven't found a truss rod cover.
  17. my Epi is a different model to this, but i did research and discovered that the wooden body and through neck were made in japan then shipped over to America for finishing and hardware. mine is also 88 or 89.
  18. My first les paul was a studio, black, gold hard ware. I had to sell and it broke my heart:-({|= The rock sound out of it was just awesome! am i right in thinking they have slightly hotter PUs than a standard? I love the natural finish on your one cincinnati. i think if i buy another studio i would go natural too.
  19. I am sure that there were a few limited editions with binding, mid 80's i think.
