soundjunkie
I've played a maple fretboard '76 LP Custom for years, selling it a few years ago for a small ransom. I bought several guitars since that time and about six months ago, bought a beautiful used birdseye maple ES-135 in mint condition. I thought I'd share my observations about the guitars I've owned over the years, past and present. I've had Gretsch's, Fender's, Music Man's, RS Guitarwork's Custom's and to me, Gibson reigns supreme over all the guitars I've owned and played. I'm sorry I sold the LP, but the ES-135 is just a sheer joy to play and own, in fact love it more than the old LP I had. Gibson has taken a lot of abuse on guitar forums over the years, mainly silly things about minor fit and finish flaws. I feel that this is really too bad. These instruments are made to make music first and foremost and THAT they do and do it better than anyone else. I've narrowed my collection down to two strats (great guitars too) a RIC-12, couple of Reverend semi-hollows (ok for the price) and my Gibson ES-135 which is my favorite guitar of all time. I absolutely get chills plugging it into my AC-15. Thanks Gibson for rocking us for all these years and hopefully years to come. May you live long and prosper! Thank you for the paean of thanks. I almost feel I need to apologise for my Gibson gits because of all the detractors out there. Am feeling better now that someone feels the same way about Gibson as I do.

gnappi
my Gibson ES-135 which is my favorite guitar of all time. I also have a 135 and it was discontinued for the 137. I own both models and for the life of me I can't see why so much criticism was dumped on the 135. You're right about Gibson getting a bad knock here and there by totally unreasonable buyers, but some criticism is well deserved. I have over a dozen personally owned Gibson guitars so I feel I'm being fair by making the following remarks. I don't expect perfection, but I "DO" expect a company to stand by their product and remedy defects. I also expect diligence on the part of any company to inspect items before shipping to prevent GLARING quality issues, AND to expect high quality from suppliers. I worked on assembly lines for an international computer maker so I know quite a bit about assembly lines. The fact is that you cannot inspect quality into a product. On prototype and pre-release products inspection plays a big part on tweaking a design to make it possible to manufacture in large quantity. If a known design is having out of box quality issues, it's generally caused by workmanship plain and simple, and this is easily corrected "IF" the manufacturer has the desire to fix it. OTOH if uninterrupted production flow is more important then a bad name results. I have personally experienced some issues with new Gibson guitars that should NEVER have occurred. brundaddy
My 135 also rules the roost! Best Gibson out of all that I've ever played. Post a picture, we'd love to see it.

Can't say I disagree, especially the "glaring quality" issues. However, isn't this why Gibson only offers their wares to dealers that meet their purchasing quoto criteria and their ability to provide service on warranty repairs? If a dealer gets a "lemon" it should go back to Gibson BEFORE the guitar goes to a paying customer. This is how I understand it works in a normal senerio.
