E-minor7
Had to remove the 12-53 Masterbuilt Premiums ph. b. from my Bird. They were too loud, brutal or harsh and exposed the G-string to a point where it boomed. Went to Martin FX Flexible Core 12-54 with a 25 instead of 24 G - much better. Much more in balance with the guitar. Still plan to try the Masterbuilts on the more soft Dove - more soft when the strings fade.

E-minor7
Did you boil them first .... ? Are you serious you straight ostrich - or I'll drop you in the big black iron pot too. For yes, I still boil once in a while - not the MB's though - strings, , , and birds.

E-minor7
boiling strings? What kind of bejeezusery is this? Madness I cry... madness! Then again boiling steel is a vintage virtue from before your time. In fact you'll get an elastic pretty intriguing mix between the faded and the crisp. But only if you add salt'n'pepper - plus a little special spice.
Joe M
I always thought you boiled strings AFTER they were used up, not before????
E-minor7
I always thought you boiled strings AFTER they were used up, not before???? Thank you for the attention hehe, , , and you are right. When I feel like making this soup it's almost always on used steel. Boiled a new set of Elixirs one time though -

E-minor7
As a serious boiler one needs to accept the 6 circles of wound string-ends at the headstock-poles in case there is a feeling the steel will hit the hot bath later. For some this is no issue - for others that alone would prevent the experiment to take place. I can live with the circles on a guitar here and there. A classic casual look. ParlourMan
...a serious boiler... You know, in Scotland a 'serious boiler' is what we call an older, out of shape, woman who tries it on with more youthful men....

Hahe he, , , , Oh Scotland - Just sent a Scotland The Brave - Pipes and Drums video to my girlfriend the other day, believe it or not. To show her how we won the Battle of El Alamein so she can sit in the park and speak free - you know sometimes women need to be given that perspective ,-) That counts for serious boilers too. Btw. here a serious boiler would a mean stunning high on green oil -
