What is this Sorrento worth ?

I bet part of the answer to that depends on where in the world you are. I was looking for that model earlier this year and I watched three on UK eBay. Two finished in orange went for £295 and £325 and a sunburst like yours, listed as mint condition, went for £375 which gives an average of £330. All had hard cases included, all were listed more than once, none sold at the original (higher) listing price and none had more than one bidder.

Interesting observations on the eBay prices Johnny. And good point about my location because that definitely does affect the price. I'm in Canada. Despite being in North America, guitar prices here are generally a little higher than they are right next door in the US. The sunburst ones seem to be rare. I've seen cherry red, black, Gretsch Orange and sparkle (metal flake) on eBay, but no sunburst. Anyhow. I ended up bringing this one home today. They're as rare as hens teeth in Canada.

No idea on price that can beat Jonny's observation. But boy, that sure is a good looking guitar. I've got a newfound fondness for the Sorrento and I'm digging that one. [thumbup]

Yea, that's why I brought it home. It's got a lot of attributes that appeal to me : full hollow, thin body, florentine cutaway, nice sunburst finish. And it has P90's - my first guitar ever with P90's. And it's in pretty darn good shape too. Built by Peerless in 1996.

BTW Jonny, I noticed the same trend with some Sorrentos I followed on eBay here in NAM: none of them sold for the original listing price; they had to be re-listed several times at progressively lower prices before they sold, and there were very few bidders when they finally did sell.

i'd say that guitar is worth ~$500 in the usa.

that said, many people don't know how to sell guitars on ebay. i've been able to flip several guitars i bought low on ebay due to poorly done listings.

and congrats on the purchase, the sorrento is a fantastic guitar that gets overlooked.

I think some of the hesitancy in people making bids on the earlier Sorrento's like your own may have been down to the imminent release of the 50th Anniversary model this year. That wasn't a factor for me because, not being a lover of mini humbuckers, I specifically wanted the P90 model. While I don't recall Epiphone originally making a P90 equipped Sorrento, guitars not being 'historically accurate' is not high on the list of 'must be or must have' in what I buy.

I agree with what others have said, that looks like a beautiful instrument and I hope you enjoy it. I'll find one eventually.

$500.00 is approximately £305.00 at the current exchange rate, so not too much difference.

Jonny, you and I are of the same mind. I was attracted to the 62 RI Sorrento but I didn't think the mini-bucker sound would be for me (although I don't really know). A Sorrento with P-90s was preferable to one with mini-buckers. And like you, historical accuracy really doesn't mean all that much to me.

I'll post some better pictures of it soon.

You ought to try out a guitar with mini's sometime when you get the chance. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. The '62 RI Sorrento is my 2nd guitar with mini-humbuckers, the first being a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe a few years ago. I've never had a problem getting the tone I want from a mini. In all honesty, I really don't hear a big difference between them and standard sized humbuckers. If there is a big difference, I'm either tonally deaf or extremely adept at refining tonal characteristics among varying pickups (I'll go with the assumption that there's not much difference between the two).

I've still got a Peerless VCSB on my wish list. A few years ago they would have sold for £400-500 easy but the price of Standard MIK Epiphone Sheratons, Casinos, Rivieras, Sorrentos have all come down in eBay lately. Seen Rivieras selling for less than £300... I'd agree with the majority here. £350ish with hard case.
