Cougar
There's a Sherry II on ebay (item no. 271401914445) with a headstock that says "Epiphone yb Gibson." Yeah, they put the "by" on backwards! Anybody seen this before? Is this just a screwup or a fake?

Cougar
http://www.ksapr.com...elled_signs.jpg Heh. The seller claims the serial no. is SK7050857. I don't see "SK" in the database....
Dennis G
What old movie was that line from that went something like "Be afraid, be very afraid.". Was it The Fly? In any event, I'm thinking I'd pass on this one.
tweed2
Interesting. If it's a fake, someone went to a lot of trouble. Weird serial number, too. Might just be an anomaly. I found this thread, says probably Samick made and from 1987, by the serial code. http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/49639-epiphone-by-gibson-headstock-sheraton-owners-club/ If you go through the thread, and look at headstock pictures, you'll see quite a variety of logo placements. The ® register is all over, in relation to the n in Gibson. The "Epiphone"s and "Gibson"s aren't parallel and how they relate to the tree of life varies, too. Funny that the '87 posted on page 3 (deflepfan) comes pretty close, other than the "by", to the headstock in question. As I said before, I'm leaning toward legitimate, just an anomaly. Cougar
Thanks, guys. I'd like to pick up a Sherry at some point, but I was mainly just curious about this one. I just looked up Samick on wiki. Man, they are one big outfit!
RobinTheHood
That is very strange. Since all Korean Epiphones were being made at Samick in 1987, the serial should read S7xxxxxx. SK can only mean "Samick Korea" in this case, if that is indeed the actual serial number. The serials were on stickers on the back of the neck in those days, and I didnt see one on this guitar...unless he has some paperwork for it. RobinTheHood
There should be no "S" infront of the serial# for that time the prefix letter started later (beginning 90s) when other factories than Samick started OEM-production Ah, you are correct. Cougar
...unless he has some paperwork for it. The seller didn't know jack. Said he picked it up in 1989. It ended up going for $510, apparently on the "rarity" factor.
