Rabs Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Wow that's impressive... At some points Geddy is singing, playing a double neck bass and the foot keyboard thingy all at the same time... Respect I thought it was going to be a cover of this one by ELO and Olivia Newton John :) lol
quapman Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I thought it was going to be a cover of this one by ELO and Olivia Newton John :) lol Now that's funny!
Rabs Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Now that's funny! The funny thing is that I can see Geddy and the boys pulling that song off well.. He certainly has the sort of voice that could do female parts well ;)
Rabs Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 I thought it was going to be this... P. Lol... Love the fake whipping.... RAWHIDE!! yee haa Who would have known there were so many songs with Xanadu in their names. You learn something new every day (how ever pointless ;))
pippy Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Lol... Love the fake whipping.... What makes you think it's fake Rabs?....this was, after all, back in the '60s ! Yee (as you quite rightly say) Haa ! ! ! P.
Brytam Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Funny comparison! Cool to see both playing double necks. Amazing how they all worked together doing so many things at different times to get that sound. Love that Rick! Geddy, get your Rick back! Nothing can beat a Rick bass (IMO).
quapman Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 The funny thing is that I can see Geddy and the boys pulling that song off well.. lol That also is quite funny. I can't see that for a second. Those 2 songs could be musical polar opposites. But hey it's cool. I know you were more of a disco fan than an Rush fan back in the day. I grew up listening to Rush so I apologize, but I had to chuckle. ;)

Well im probably still more of a Disco fan than a Rush fan :) And well most of the time I am joking around anyway (mostly) ;) It just never occurred to me until today that there would be more than one song called Xanadu.
quapman Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 It just never occurred to me until today that there would be more than one song called Xanadu. There was ever, and there only will ever be,, one Xanadu. lol,, kidding. Actually I saw them play that tune live on the A Farewell To Kings Tour during the peak of my interest in them. So it's a pretty special one for me.

Rush was a major influence on me when I first started playing guitar which was right around the Farewell to Kings tour and album. I spent weeks with friends listening and learning to play Xanadu on guitar. When I saw this post, I grabbed my guitar and played along and it all came back!
rocketman Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I believe this is the first tune with the famous Alex Lifeson signature F#7sus4 chord.
