BobF_ Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I'm itching for a new amp to go with my new guitars. I really like the features (on paper) of both the Carvin V3M and the H&K TM18. Searching around for reviews, I don't see a lot either way for the Carvin and quite a bit of hate for the TM18. I thought I would check the trusted source - here :) Anybody have them, played them, no somebody ... good, bad, ugly?
saturn Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I have the Carvin Legacy and really like it. I haven't been on the Carvin boards in awhile, but from what I remember the V3 got a lot of love there.
zigzag Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Any Carvin gets love on their boards. My experience is that Carvins are a great value, amps and guitars, but I can't tell you what sounds good.
turtle Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 H&K tubemeister 18 is pretty sweet. My friend has one and it does a *****ing job as his practice amp so he doesn't need to lug the triamp or duo tone. Great cleans and distortion. And on 5 watts, it'll keep up with a drummer lol
EVOL! Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I had a Carvin XT112 in college. Not a lot of fond memories with that amp in regards to tone and it eventually when to crap when I went into the studio to record an album. Also, the foot switch was this weird XLR thing that was difficult for amp techs to repair. Think I went through three of them in the six or so years I owned it. There more recent line of amps may be better, I don't know.
