Jokers Wild
Hello all, My first post here on the forum. Guys, I am about to purchase my first Epiphone, a Casino NA with the ID 14121502036. I ran the ID on the website http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx and it showed the following result: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guitar Info Your guitar was made at the Qingdao Plant (Epiphone), China on December, 2014 Production Number: 2036 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So far so good! Seems ok! My ' Problem' is the guy wants like 185 USD for it and a new one costs about 650 EUR about 700 - 750 USD. So I wonder, does the seller not know what he owns, or the guitar is a fake. I will attach some pictures not very clear but you know ... maybe it gives you an ideea. Te good thing is, picking it up is a musician friend, with some epiphones in his gear and some more experience so I hope it will be ok. Thanks all, Dan
tweed2
Welcome Dan. First, I will tell you that I am, by no means, an expert on these. There are others here that are much more knowledgeable than I. But, I own several (5) Epis, including a Casino. In comparing your pictures to mine, I would say that is the real thing. You also have to think that if someone is going to sell something as a fake, it probably wouldn't be an Epiphone, and certainly not for that amount. I would go over it closely, looking for cracks around the neck to body joint or up around the nut, indicators of damage or failure. That, to me would be a more plausible reason for the low price, not legitimacy. $185 is quite low for a Casino, so I can understand your hesitation. But if real and in good condition, it'd be a hell of a find. Maybe too good. Let's see if one of the smart guys checks in. In the mean time, welcome, and if things work out, congratulations. In my opinion, the Casino is the best guitar that Epiphone makes. Like Sir Paul said, "if I could only have one guitar....". Keep us posted and stick around. Jokers Wild
Thank you for your kind words and sharing your thoughts with me. I totally agree with you and I am happy my more experienced friends is picking it up and the deal will go down after his rehearsal meaning he will play it as well. He owns a riviera so I hope.he knows where to look for possible hidden problems. Thanks again and I will.keep you updated. Parabar
I don't see any signs of fakery in the pics you posted, but as tweed2 says, a thorough going-over to make sure there are no structural problems (warped neck, cracks, etc.) would be prudent. Jokers Wild
Hi again, Sooo, I bought it :D. Can't wait for it to arrive. I consider myself fortunate that my friend was able to pick it up avoiding transport costs and the fear it could be damaged. Besides you guys (thanks again) also Gibson/Epiphone confirmed the authenticity based on serial no and pictures sent. Ok, thanks again for taking time answer my questions. Cheers all, Beer is on me :)
charlie brown
Hope it's not "Stolen?!" That, too, could be a reason it was so inexpensive? Quick turnover for drug money, or some such? But, it may have been priced, simply to move it quickly, and is perfectly legit?! Time will tell. Good Luck, and enjoy it! CB
Jokers Wild
Hey Charlie, To be honest I also thought about it being stolen. The 'official' story of the seller sounds much like a cliche, 'it is his uncles and he moved away to another country etc.'. If it is stolen I am sorry for the one so let's hope it belonged to his uncle. Drug money was my first bet. Maybe both scenarios. Hmmm. Now I hope it is not stolen.
