Royj
I have what I believe is a 1935 L-30 . This guitar has a 16 inch bout. Anybody know if these where produced in a 16 in. width. or is this a different year

zombywoof
While I am far from an expert on Gibson archtops, if memory serves me correctly, I have never run across an L30 with a 16" lower bout. So based on that it is not an L30. What model it is though offhand I cannot say. Edited December 22, 2021 by zombywoof

zombywoof
Could it be an L50? These acquired a 16" lower bout around the same time f holes became standard on the model and I have seen them with a burst or black finish and both the plain (like yours) and raised diamond tail piece. 62burst
Yes, didn’t they go to the larger body on the L-50 in ‘34? Gibson did a lot of black guitars in the early’30’s. Did you get an inspection mirror inside the guitar to see if there is an FON stamp near the f-hole of the lower bout? or stamped behind the headstock? Also- a pic of the headstock logo would help- ‘forget when they went from white/silver to gold?

The model designation and FON were on a white label which you could see through the F-hole. Because of the label though I never thought to look to see if there was an FON stamped on the neck block. At one point I also came close to buying a later-1930s L-12 which was basically an art deco version of an L7. Again, there was a label visible through the f hole.
