stevegarside
Hi all I am interested in an 'Orville by Gibson' L-1 guitar (circa 1992), which I have seen on-line. It isn't referred to as 'a Robert Johnson' signature model. Just a plain L-1. Does anyone know if this guitar is a solid wood guitar - or is it laminate? Thanks, Steven
pohatu771
The 1993 Orville catalog just says "Spruce/Mahogany/Mahogany" in the Top/Side/Back field. I believe they are solid. Previous sellers have made that claim.
Red 333
That is fascinating. I have an interest in the Japan-made Orvilles and Epiphone Elite/Elitists, and that catalog contains some models I'd never seen. Thanks for the link. bobouz
Yes, that is a very interesting link. Re the guitar in question, I’d be more inclined to think that the top might be solid, with laminated back & sides. That was a familiar format for many good quality Japanese acoustics - but I don’t know for sure!

Thanks, Steven Shouldn't information such as this be available from Gibson directly? Or is their internal record keeping so bad that they have no idea what their company produces and produced in the past? RBSinTo
