Cool! How about some info!

well good grief, meant to reply and totally lost track of time. anyway, if anyone is still interested:

The guitar described below is, in our opinion (Gruhn confirming pix for an appraisal for insurance purposes), a Gibson Hummingbird experimental 12-string model made in the year 1960.

Serial number A35225, in 1997 my father sent it to Jan Burda for a repair.

That invoice details: Remove/reset neck Replace truss rod FB patch Repair neck block and reglue loose top Fit new bone saddle Touch up/replace binding/overspray bare wood on neck

Earlier this year I took it to Chicago's Specimen Products and had the old tuners replaced by Ian Schneller as the pegs were decrepit. So right now it is in fine playing condition, I still have the original tuners/pegs and we have the OHSC (complete with sticker that says "Willie Nelson For President," possibly my favorite detail).

The attached photos include a letter from Gibson dated May 26, 1969, describing this guitar and stating that it passed final inspection November 9, 1960 and was an experimental instrument.

From Gruhn: As is typical of a Hummingbird model it features a dreadnought-size body with square shoulders, Sitka spruce top with cherry sunburst finish, mahogany neck, back, and sides with cherry red stain finish, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with white binding and pearloid double-parallelogram inlays, multiple bindings on the top and back edges of the body, and engraved Hummingbird pickguard.

This guitar features a pearl Gibson logo on the peghead but lacks the typical crown-shaped inlay normally seen on a Hummingbird. It has a very long peghead designed for 12 individual Kluson Deluxe tuners. The tuner buttons are starting to deteriorate. This instrument features a Brazilian rosewood rectangular bridge with no bridge pins and a trapeze tailpiece, as is typical of the earliest Gibson 12-string guitars.

Due to its rarity it is difficult to establish a market price based upon supply, demand, or prior precedent; however, based upon over 45 years experience collecting and dealing vintage instruments it is my opinion that this guitar in its present condition would have a current market value of $3500 (three thousand five hundred dollars).

* very odd, I can't seem to upload a jpg, even though it's far less than the maximum file size.

By the way, that Lightfoot pic is of newer date. But it's good. The black'n'blue colours in the vest and mics, positively contradicted by the stage-spot-yellow in hair and shirt, crowned by the honeyburst12. Then the facial expression and the row of white buttons.
