Are Gibson's V shaped necks the same as Martin's

I would totally be all over the J45 True Vintage if not for the V neck. I've owned a couple V necked Martins and they give me wrist pain. A D28 Marquis especially. Are Gibson's necks just as chunky and sharp?

Gibson's idea of a V neck is not nearly as pronounced as Martin's. Maybe FP will chime in here because it seems to me he sold one of his Martins for that very reason..... he just couldn't get comfortable with that neck. My Southern Jumbo is supposed to be a V neck but it sure doesn't seem like it. That's my experience anyway.

My short scale AJ has a v neck. I like the feel of my J-45 better!

Generally, "yes" to chunky and "no" to sharp. They vary considerably across models, though, from "Where's the V? There's no V!" (e.g., the standard AJ) to a quite pronounced V ('30s reissues). You'll have to try one of this specific model to see whether you like the neck or not.

My Costell Century of Progress has an extremely pronounced V. Chunky and pretty sharp. My Woody Guthrie 000-18 has sharper, less chunky neck. I like them both but probably prefer a chunky C.

My Gibson L-20 has a less pronounced neck than the OO-18V Martin. The nut on the L-20 is 1 13/16 vrs. the Martin, but is more comfortable....I like playing different shaped necks....keeps you sharp
